IRIS ROSE DEAN IRVIN, 75, of Richfield, Oh., formerly of Wayne County, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Pine Valley Care Center. She was born November 14, 1936 in Logan, W.Va., a daughter of the late Millard and Louedith Dean. Her husband, BillyIrvin also preceded her in death along with infant daughter, Debra Lynn Dean, and one brother Gordon Hiram Dean. Iris was a member of the Baptist Church at Northfield, Ohio Survivors include one daughter, Laura Soverns of Fla.; one son, Claude Lee Irvin of Akron, Oh.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is six sisters, Phyllis Ferrell of Elizabethtown, Pa., Myrtle Maynard of Kiahsville, W.Va., B. Elaine Frost of Wheelersburg, Oh., Millie Ferrell and her husband Steve of McMinnville, Tenn.,
Sandra Kay Wriston and Kathryne Rosen, both of Ravenna, Oh.; three brothers, Millard Fullen Dean Jr., and his wife Dianna of Frankfort, Ky., James D. Dean and wife Kathy of Wayne, W.Va., and Randy Dean and his wife Barbara of Huntington; and lifelong best friend, Pat Minsey of Cleveland, Oh. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Earl Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

KENNETH L. PLASTER, 84, of Huntington, WV went to be with Jesus, and to be reunited with his wife, Betty, and 2 sons, Billy and Richard, on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from his home, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. Kenneth was born June 30, 1927 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late, Ezburn L. and Dora Owens Plaster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Bledsoe Plaster, an infant son, Richard L. Plaster, and son, Billy Plaster. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Maxine Plaster Kilgore, Ernestine Plaster, and Mildred Plaster King; 1 brother, who has been sorely missed by Kenneth; E. Leonard "Lew" Plaster and a brother-in-law, who along with Kenneth and Leonard spent many happy years traveling with their families on yearly vacations,
George I. Bickar. Kenneth is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jody Plaster, of Huntington, WV, who lovingly cared for him over the last several years of his life. 1 daughter Patricia L. (Mike) Rosellini, of Bakersfield, CA., 2 grandsons, Keith Michael Plaster, of Union, KY, Thomas Allan Pritt, Jr. (Amanda) of Reynoldsburg, OH; 2 granddaughters, Tabitha Arnold and Robin Ellis (Jeremy) both of Huntington, WV.; 5 great-grandchildren, Jaxon Pritt, Tyler Arnold, Chase Ellis, Skyler Pritt, and Brooklyn Ellis. 2 sisters, Betty (Carl) Kilgore and Nina Bickar. Sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Plaster, Carolyn Nelson, Fred (Juanita) Bledsoe, and Jim (Judy) Blesdsoe. A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends survive as well. Kenneth was retired from The Veterans Administration Hospital in Huntington, WV. He proudly served our country in The United States Navy as a veteran of World War II. Funeral services were conducted, Friday, February 3, 2012 at Reger Funeral Chapel, Burial followed with military honors at Docks Creek (Maple Hill Section) Cemetery.

HELEN MARIE SIAS, 63, of Kenova passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Rollins Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Dock's Creek Cemetery. Helen was born March 22, 1948, in O'Keefe, W. Va., a daughter of the late Denver L. and Melda Kennedy Sias. She attended Christ Temple Church. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother Walter Sias. Survivors include three brothers Denver Sias of Kenova, Dennis Sias of Millville, N.J. and Benny Sias of Chincoteague, Virginia. CHERYL PAULEY HENDERSON, 68 of Fallsburg, KY passed away Friday February 3, 2012 at her home in Hancock, MD. She was born December 7, 1943 in Nankin, Michigan She was a 1962 graduate of Lawrence County High School in Louisa, KY. She was retired from the Washington County Board of Education where she worked as a parent involvement/school community aid. She was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland, KY. She is survived by her husband David M. Henderson whom she married September 11, 1965 in Clear Spring, MD, her mother Billie Ann Pigmon of Louisa, KY; one daughter, Cheryl A. Jones and husband Rob of Gloucester Point, VA; two sons, David C. Henderson of Hancock, MD and Dale W. Henderson of Needmore, PA; two brothers, Phillip Pigmon of Louisa, KY and James Pigmon of Oviedo, FL; one sister, Georgina Hewlett of Brownsburg, IN; grandchildren, Jayden and Olivia Jones; many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Bill and Georgia Maddy and her step-father John C. Pigmon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday at 6:00 pm at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, MD, Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial and a graveside service was in Maddy Cemetery in Fallsburg, KY, Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Local Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home Louisa, KY.

ROGER EARL WREN, 66, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away Friday, February 3, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church by Pastor Jody Fortner and Pastor Ray Williamson. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Park, Barboursville. He was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Logan County, W.Va., a son of Elizabeth "Libby' Boyd Wren of Lavalette, and the late Russell Wren. Roger retired from the Huntington Fire Department, having served as a fireman from 1969 to 1992. He was also a Baptist preacher for over 40 years. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Wren. Additional survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jan Wren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Staci Wren, and Derick and Missy Wren, all of Huntington; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wes Leek of Prichard, W.Va; eight grandchildren, Cody Wren, Kirsten Cyrus, Braydon Wren, Kaylin Leek, Ashton Wren, Maddison Leek, Kylie Karres and Alex Karres; a brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Judy Wren of Huntington; sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Ken Rutherford of Huntington; four nieces and one nephew, Tina Weiss, Amy Wren, Leann Brescoach, Jeremy Jessup, and Shannon Kemble and her husband Frank Kemble. NANNIE VAUGHAN, 69, of Wayne, W.Va., went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, February 4, 2012. She was a caring wife, cherished mother, grandmother, friend and a member of the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Jacob Vaughan and six children; Freddie (Anita) Aliff, Connie (Woodie) Spence, Jakie (Jean) Vaughan, Faye (Mark) Mills, Robert (Tina) Vaughan, and Roger (Cynthia) Vaughan. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; Donald Browning, Melissa Aliff, Jonathan and Tyler McClellan, Shawnda Mounts, Tyler Spence, Michael and Crystal Vaughan, Misty Mills-Overbay, David Mills, Brandon Vaughan, Jessica McGowan, Brittney Dunford, Ashley, Joshua, Adam and Matthew Vaughan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Abby, Maddie, Dylan, Justin, Jarrod, McKayden, Brayden, Chase, Hunter, and Levi. She also leaves behind two brothers, George and Tillman Aliff; a sister, Marie Wooten; Debbie Miller who was close to her heart; and a host of dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Graveside services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Browning-Vaughan Cemetery with Pastor Roger Perry officiating. ERNEST G. JACKSON, age 67 of Massillon, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012, after a year illness. Ernie was born April 16, 1944 in Wayne County, WV to Willie & Ruth Jackson. Ernie played football for Vikings at Ft. Gay High School and graduated in 1963. Following school he joined the Army in 1966 and received an honorable discharge. He married Bessie Pendolino on January 27, 1968. Ernie was a 46 year employee of Republic Steel/Union Drawn retiring in 2011. He was a member of St. Barbara's Church where he served as an usher at the 4:30 PM Mass. A member of the Tuslaw Lions Club & American Legion Post #441. His personal enjoyment was hunting and especially fishing on Lake Erie. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Jackson in 1995. Ernie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bessie Jackson; two daughters, Chantell Kirby and her fiance Jack Jobes and Nickcole (Tim) Evans; his mother, Ruth Mary Jackson; sister, Judy Cavins and a brother, Willie Jackson Jr. all of Ft. Gay; sister, Carrie Young of East Lynn, WV, Donna Adkins of Ohio, Loretta Wilmoth of FL and a grandson, Daniel Kirby III. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Wednesday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, his pastor Fr. Thomas Cebula will officiate. Burial will be at Brookfield Cemetery. Friends called Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Donations can be sent to the St. Barbara's Memorial Fund in Ernie's name. PEACHIE COOK, 83, of Milford, Ohio, formerly of Wayne County, wife of James L. Cook, died February 4, 2012, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, W.Va.; burial at Willie Wiley Cemetery, Ranger, W.Va. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home.

FRANCES WEBB RIGGS CAIN, 96, of Louisa, Kentucky peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of February 4, 2012 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. She was born on November 18, 1915 in Webbville, Kentucky, the daughter of W.T. Cain, Jr. and Dorothy Webb Cain. Mrs. Cain graduated from Louisa High School in 1933 and went on to earn a degree in Fine Arts from Morehead State University. She and her family owned and operated the Garden Theater in Louisa from 1921-1978. She taught art at Lawrence County High School until her retirement in 1986. Services for Mrs. Cain were conducted at the Louisa United Methodist Church by Reverend Guy Moyer on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Burial followed at Pinehill Cemetery.

JAMES EDWARD ASBURY, 65, of Prichard, W.Va., formerly of Man, W.Va., passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Rollins Funeral Home with Brother Mike Blankenship officiating. Jim was born April 14, 1946, in Lundale, W.Va., son of the late Charles Edward and Barbara Griffith Asbury. He was a U.S. Marine veteran having served his country during the Vietnam war. He was retired from AEP where he was a Safety Supervisor. Jim attended the Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, he was a Mason and a member of the American Legion Post 93 whose Honor Guard will perform military rites. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Joseph Charles Asbury. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years Lynda Williamson Asbury; two sons and daughters-in-law James Edward Asbury II (Debra) of Prichard and Matthew Eric Asbury (Jennifer) of Crum, W.Va.; two sisters Patricia Young (Charles) of Yulee, Florida and Charlotte Smith (Tom) of Barboursville, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren Brandy, Zackery, Jordan, Jacob, Elizabeth, Douglas, Jonathan, Caroline, Dylan and Victoria Asbury, all of whom called Jim "Boy"; and two great-grand children Connor and Kaylynn Booth. CHRISTABELL "CRICK" THOMPSON, 92 of Fort Gay, WV went to be with her Lord on Sunday Feb. 5, 2012 following a brief illness. Mrs. Thompson was born January 22, 1920 at Wayne, WV, the daughter of the late Richard and Nora Riggs Jackson. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years Don Arthur Thompson who died in 1998, a son Jack Thompson, and a daughter Donna Sue Thompson. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jack Webb of Fort Gay, WV; Sons Billie and wife Arvenia Thompson of South Shore, KY, Richard D. and wife Gerri Thompson of Deltona, FL, Michael and Wife Patricia Thompson also of Fort Gay, WV; a daughter-in-law Sue Thompson of Wooster, OH, and a brother Don and wife Ruth Thompson of Rittman, OH, ten grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday Feb. 8th at 1 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home by Bro. Jack Webb and Bro. Del Crum. Burial will follow in the Docks Creek Cemetery at Kenova, WV. CALLIE BEATRICE SIMPKINS MATHEWS, 87 of Wayne, W.Va., formerly of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Monday, February 6, 2012, at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Michael Dillon and Brother Scott Marshall. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. She was born October 3, 1924, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Thurman Otterwell Simpkins and Callie Finley Simpkins. Callie was a retired realtor and beautician and was a member of the former Lick Creek Baptist Church. Her husband Lark Mathews also preceded her in death, along with three brothers, Ozzie Norman Simpkins, Cozzie Nelman Simpkins and Cossie Newbern Simpkins. Survivors include a sister-in-law Dr. Katherine Simpkins of Huntington, W.Va., and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne. HUBERT ALLEN DUTTON, age 62, of Louisa died Monday, February 6, 2012 at home in Louisa. Hubert was born September 27, 1949 in Louisa, KY. He is the son of the late Hubert Cecil and the late Mary Gwendolyn (Henry) Dutton. He was a former Truck Driver. He is survived by ; three sisters: Peggy Hinkle of Columbus, OH, Jerry Joan Grotsky of Lake Worth, FL, Mary Cleo Dutton of Boyton Beach, FL and one brother: Paul Edward Dutton of West Palm Beach, FL; A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home.

BILLY JACK ARTHUR, 72, of Louisa, KY, died Monday, February 6, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Pt. Pleasant, WV. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, WV. He was born September 7, 1939 in Wayne, WV, a son of the late Hasten and Eunice Cyrus Arthur. Billy was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass. A son, Reginald Greg Arthur also preceded him in death, along with three brothers, Arvel, Harold and Kenneth Arthur; and a step-brother, Herman Sansom, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife, Anna Lou Evans Arthur; a daughter, Sherry Wellman of Huntington, WV; two sons, Billy Lee Arthur and Rodney Glenn Arthur, both of Ft. Gay, WV; a brother, Odel Arthur of Huntington, WV; two step-daughters, Beatrice Little and Barbara Huff, both of Ft. Gay, WV; a step-son, Jason Evans of Ft. Gay, WV; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and three step-grandchildren. MARY ELIZABETH PRESTON, 83 of Louisa made her journey home Monday Feb. 6, 2012 at Community Hospice in Ashland after an accident at home. Born March 29, 1928 in Matewan, WV, She was the daughter of the late William M. and Lizzy Lou Fitchpatrick Terry. She was a member of the Mount Olive Church and a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband Scott Preston and baby girl Etta Mae Preston, two sisters Kathern Runyon, Sue Ellen Ratliff, four brothers Donald Terry, Emanuel Terry, Jacob Terry, and Bill Dave Terry. Survivors include two sisters Jean Stapleton of Nats Creek, Bonnie (George) Little of Louisa, Three Brothers Bobby Ray (Carole) Terry of Whitehall, Ohio, Ronald (Joyce) Terry, Milton Terry of Louisa and lots of nieces and nephews that love her very much. Funeral services were conducted by Elders Claude Mulett, J.D. Rice, and Jake Crum on Thursday Feb. 9th at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Preston Cemetery Nats Creek, KY. SADIE BRUNTY, 84, Huntington, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va. Burial will follow at the Asbury Cemetery, East Lynn, W.Va. She was born July 2, 1927, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charlie and Eliza Osburn. She was a homemaker. A sister Madeline Porter, two brothers Wiley "Dude" Osburn and Ed Osburn, half-brother Dewey Watts and nephews Gary Osburn, Zenith, Glenn, Ron and Grady Porter also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Jean Brunty and Anita (Richard) Urban, all of Huntington; three sons, Cordova "Pete" (Patti) Brunty and Bradley Brunty, all of Huntington, and Michael (Cathy) Brunty of South Point, Ohio; a niece Sadie Porter of Wayne; a nephew Shilow Porter of Wayne; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great- great-grandchildren. The family extends special thanks to the ICU at Cabell-Huntington Hospital and nurses Larry, Ashley and Brenda. Friends may call from noon until service time Friday at Morris Funeral Home.

BEVERLY CRAWFORD, age 47, of Louisa died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center of Ashland, KY. Beverly was born December 5, 1964 in Louisa, KY. She is the daughter of the late Billy and the late Geraldine (Watts) McKenzie. She was a Homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Tony Crawford; one daughter, Brandie Jordan of Louisa, KY; and one son, Billy Joe Crawford of Louisa, KY; three sisters, Teresa Spurlock of Olive Hill, KY, Melody Smith of Louisa, KY, Brenda Baisden of Louisa, KY; and one brother, Greg Mckenzie of Catlettsburg, KY. She also has two granddaughters, Layken Jordan and Leah Jordan. The funeral was held 1:00 pm on Friday, February 10 at Richardson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Richardson, KY with Bro. Tommy Meade officiating. Burial followed in McClure Cemetery, Louisa. Friends called after 2:00 pm Thursday at the Richardson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. GEORGEMARY THACKER, 88, of Louisa, Ky., died February 8, 2012 at home. Funeral service were 2 p.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, Louisa officiated by Bro. Ric Frazier. Visitation was one hour before service at the church. She was born March 19, 1923 in Paintsville, Ky. to Clark F. and Hattie Blair Walters. VIRGINIA SHANNON CYRUS, 93, of Durbin, Ky., widow of Marion S. Cyrus, died February 9, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland. She worked in the Boyd County School System cafeterias. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home, Catlettsburg, Ky.; burial at Catlettsburg Cemetery. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. CHARLES EDWARD MARCUM, 72, of Kermit, WV went home to be with the Lord February 9, 2012. Born June 22, 1939 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Eda Parsley and James Harlen Marcum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Laura Bell Marcum, Maxine Sterner, Nancy Krohn, and Bertha Salmons and brothers, Kim , Homer , Franklin D., Robert Lee, Johnny, and Herman Marcum. He is survived by brothers, Emory Marcum and James Marcum both of Ft. Gay, WV, and Therman Marcum of Kermit, WV, his sister, Dixie Marcum of Chesapeake, Ohio; a special niece, Eda Harper of Ft. Gay, WV; a lifelong friend, Gene Parsley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield, Ky. with Noah Robertson officiating. DEBORAH NELL WALLACE, 55, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by Elders Tommy Damron and Roger Maynard. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens at Wayne. She was born Dec. 11, 1956, in Mingo County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Martha Louise Ramey Moorehouse. She was a school bus driver for Wayne County schools and a member of the Echo United Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Dale Wallace; two sons, Steven Dale (Paulette) Wallace and Daniel Joseph (Bridgette) Wallace, all of Wayne, W.Va.; a very special uncle, Taylor Maynard of Wayne, W.Va.; three sisters, Armilda (Gary) Michels, Sally (Freelin) Pridemore and Arlene (Delbert) Maynard, all of Wayne, W.Va.; seven brothers, James (Virginia) Ramey II, Charles A. TERRY LEE CHANDLER, 63, of Huntington, passed away February 13, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center. JAMES CLAY, age 85 went home on February 15, 2012. He was the son of the late William Clay & Nora Cox Clay. James was preceded in death by his wife Francis Fuggitt Clay. He was also preceded in death by six sisters, six brothers and one Great Grandchild. James was retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He was a great man and he will be sadly missed. Sophia Lee was born July 8, 1917, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Dyke Adkins and Sarah Ann Vance Adkins. Sophia Lee retired from the Huntington Manufacturing Company, where she was employed for 38 years. She was a member of First Altizer Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by two sisters, Idella Gavin and Alice Jean Johnson; three brothers, Ottie and Cecil Adkins, and David Elmer Johnson; her granddaughter, Juanita Marie Dennison; and son-in-law, E. Earl (Brub) Dennison. ERNESTINE PERRY SEITZ, of Sun City Center, Florida left this life on February 16, 2012, and joined her Father in Heaven. Tina was an active member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was born on April 26, 1931 in Wayne, West Virginia, to Melvin and Gladys Thompson. Tina was a long time resident of Wayne County, Ohio, where she was an educator for several years. After she moved to Florida, she continued to teach in the Winter Haven area until her retirement. She was an avid reader who shared her love of books and learning with others and encouraged them to achieve their highest potential. Tina will be deeply missed by her husband Norman Seitz, her daughters Connie Leona Felts (Carl) of New Marshfield, Ohio, and Jane Ellen Ridinger (Michael) of Medina, Ohio, five grandchildren Rachel Conley (Ken), Melissa Gwinn (Matt), Valerie Clason, Ken Clason (Amber), Christopher Steinman, and three great-grandchildren Landon, Abigail, and Evan Conley. She was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Lovella Tabor, and two brothers Paul Thompson and Melvin Thompson Jr. Tina is survived by siblings Bruce Thompson (Allene), Ladonna Still, Lois Baisden, Jewel Otta, Danny Thompson (Phyllis), and JoAnne Howard. HELEN MAE PERRY WHITTEN, age 93, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Lady Lake, Fla., and Huntington, W.Va., passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2012, at her home following an extended illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Wayne County, W.Va., to the late Timothy and Laura (Sellards) Perry. Helen attended Huntington High School. She was a founding member of the TNT Club, a social group of girlhood friends formed in 1933. She retired from teaching at St. Peter's Episcopal Church private kindergarten in Huntington. In 1993, two years after the death of her husband, she moved from Lady Lake, Fla., to Mansfield, Ohio, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. Helen Whitten will be remembered fondly as a lovely, kind and gracious Christian lady. He was born August 23, 1933 in Dunlow, WV, a son of the late Jake and Hester Dalton Dingess. Ervin was retired from the WV Department of Highways and was a member of the Brush Branch Church. His wife, Della Cox Dingess also preceded him in death, along with a sister, Lena Dingess; two brothers, Sam and Pete Dingess; and an infant sister. Survivors include his loving daughter, Nancy Ellen Dingess of Kermit, WV; and a sister, Nancy Ellen Dingess of Colorado.

MILDRED MAE "MICK" "MIDGE" ADKINS SMITH, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away at the age of 73, on Sunday, February 19, 2012, after a short battle with cancer, in JFK Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was born June 29, 1938, in Wayne County, West Virginia, the daughter of Albert "Red" and Gladys Adkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three infant sisters and her in-laws Anthony Wayne "Pete" and Basil Smith. She is survived by her husband Gene Wayne Smith of Lake Worth, Florida. Also surviving are her children Debbie (Johnny) Coleman of Lake Worth, Ronnie (Amy) Smith of Chesapeake, Ohio, Diana (Mike) Caines of Orlando, Florida, Doug (Tonya) Smith of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Kay (Roger) Thompson of Huntington, W.Va., Penny Wray of Lake Worth, Florida and John M. Smith of West Palm Beach, Florida; and her beautiful dog Sassy. Surviving sisters are Carolyn (Chick) Davis and Lois Jean Plybon, both of Huntington. Surviving grandchildren are Anthony Goodrow, Tavis Smith of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robert, Michelle and Jennifer Smith, all of Huntington, West Virginia, Chris and Josh Caines of Orlando, Florida, Deandrea Dean of Michigan, Aaron Thompson of Virginia, Jessica Rebeck of Michigan, Brian Bowen of Lake Worth, Florida. Also surviving are step-grandchildren Amanda and Caleb Cline of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mick had spent many years working in and around the Huntington area in nursing homes and was last employed by Zerkle Trucking Company in Barboursville, West Virginia, before relocating to Florida. LACE E. DAMRON, 89, of Prichard, W. Va., died on Monday, February 20, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. He was the son of the late Alexander and Cassie Hall Damron. Lace was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine Trenter Damron; son, Gary Lee Damron; granddaughter, Melissa Rae McGuire; brothers, Fred and Shirley; and sisters, Pauline Newman, Josephine Hatten and Nellie Chadwick. SARA ELIZABETH RICE, 94, of Louisa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY. Born April 11, 1917, in Louisa, she was the daughter of the late Emma Short Rice and David Elijah Rice. She was a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Sara was a Lawrence County Schools teacher for 41 years, teaching at Fallsburg Elementary and at Deephole and Yatesville one-room schools. Sara worked with the 4-H Club for many years, receiving the Kentucky 4-H Centennial Hall of Fame Award in 2009. She considered all of her former students and 4-H members her children. She loved to sew and many of her 4-Hers learned sewing from Sara. She was a member of Myrtle Chapel Church, where she taught the Beginners Youth Sunday School class and served as church secretary and treasurer for many years. She selflessly cared for others and always offered support to family and friends, encouraging them to become the best that they could be. Sara was loved by many for her work and willingness to help others in the Fallsburg community. She received the WSAZ Hometown Hero award in 1999. Sara was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Lawrence County Education Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Moore; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, David (Emma Elizabeth) Rice, Thomas (Elizabeth) Rice, James French (Laura) Rice, and Jackie Rice; and a nephew, David Eli Moore. Survivors include a brother, Jack Rice of Fallsburg; a brother-in-law, Ralph Moore of Louisa; seven nieces, Susan Gipson, Linda Beth Ferguson, Joyce Burton, Wanda Blevins, Marsha Shannon, Debra Savage Rice, and Sara Elizabeth "Penny" Rice; and eight nephews, Paul Rice, Carl Rice, Richard Rice, Donald Rice, Herb Rice, Joe Rice, Randy Savage Rice, and Gregory Rice; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was born on Aug. 30, 1962, in Ashland, Ky., a son of Guy and Ruth Ann Davis Underwood, who survive. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Aaron (Jennifer) Farley of Lavalette; a daughter, Katelyn Underwood of Lavalette; a brother, Jerry (Rachael) Underwood of Georgetown, Ohio; sisters, Tammy (Tim) Molton of Berea, Ky., and Julie (Rob) Jenks of New Lexington, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at 5 p.m. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Tim Molton officiating. EDITH FRALEY HANSHAW, 90, of Louisa, Ky. passed away February 24, 2012 in Louisa. A daughter of the late Albert G. and Martha E. Elliot Fraley, and the wife of the late Wallace Hanshaw who died in 2000. She was a member of the Mt. Olive United Baptist Church. Survivors include six daughters; Janet Hanshaw, Louisa, Ky., Opal Caudill, Commercial Point, Ohio, Greta (Oliver) Stevens, Commercial Point, Ohio, Martha (Doug) Sparks, Orient, Ohio, and Elaine (Charles) Adkins, Louisa, Ky., three sons; Frank (Debbie) Hanshaw, of Louisa, Homer (Tammy) Hanshaw, Catlettsburg, Ky., and Joe (Patty) Hanshaw, Louisa, Ky., two sisters; Ann Hammonds, Louisa, Ky. and Rita Burchette, Circleville, Ohio. Also 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchild and one step-grandchild. Services were Monday, February 27, 2012 at Young Funeral Home Chapel. DELBERT CLARENCE CARTER, 72, of Genoa, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church at Genoa, WV, with Pastor Buck Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Cemetery at Genoa. He was born September 27, 1939 at Wayne, WV, a son of the late Clarence and Blanche Kenney Carter. Three sisters, Norma Jean Parsons, Virginia Pauley, and Marie Smells, and four brothers, Melvin, Marvin, John and Glen Carter also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Lucille Christian Carter; two daughters, Pamela (Sidney) Jordan of Genoa, WV, and Angela Carter of Wayne, WV; a son, Clarence Dwayne (Tamara) Christian of Genoa, WV; 8 grandchildren, Dustin Carter, Aaron Jordan, Amber Jordan, Sarah Jordan, Brenda Christian, Clarence Christian, Jr., Ford Christian, and Delcie Carter; and two special friends, Bonnie Roseberry Adkins and Rebecca Berry.

WADE WILEY COPLEY, 92, formerly of Lavalette, West Virginia, passed peacefully at Pleasant Hill Manor in Piketon, Ohio on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Wade was born on December 13, 1919, at Queen's Ridge in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of the late Lafayette and Victoria Queen Copley. Wade served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and received several decorations and citations including the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. As a civilian, he worked many jobs and wore many hats. He was a logger, farmer and retired from Robin Industries Inc., in Cleveland, Ohio. After retiring, his pride and joy was his horse and cattle farm. He is survived by one sister Patty Cutlip of Huntington, W. Va., and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, all of whom adored him as he was much more than an uncle. The family greatly appreciates Hospice of Hope and the staff at Pleasant Hill Manor for their continual care and support. Wade was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph, Jink, Filmore, John B., App and Jay Walter, and three sisters Mary, Tennessee, and Genette. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. by Rev. Stewart Farley and Rev. Lucian Nelson at Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Wayne, W. Va. The family is honored to have singing by the Copley Family Quartet. Wade's special nephews will serve as pallbearers, Raymond Copley, Monroe Perry, Bob Perry, Charles Copley, Dudley Ralston and a very special friend Jimmy Maynard. STEVEN DWAYNE WILLIAMS, 32, of Marrowbone, WV departed this life Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Wayne, WV. He was born October 12, 1979, the son of Dewayne and Shelia Williams of Marrowbone, WV and Betty and Matthew Marcum of Logan, WV. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Helen Meade and Albert and Elizabeth Williams. He is survived, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 14 years, Lisa Williams of Marrowbone, WV; 3 daughters, Elizabeth, Sierra and Tierra Williams all of Marrowbone, WV; 1 son, Mason Preece of Dunlow, WV; 1 sister, Kim Williams Stacy of Wayne, WV; 1 brother-in-law, Jimmy Dale Marcum, of Lovely, KY; 2 step-brothers; 2 step-sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. OPAL BOWEN STALEY, 87, of Wayne, W. Va., passed away peacefully Sunday, February 26, 2012, at her residence following a long illness. She was a retired LPN and was a member of the former Lick Creek United Baptist Church. Also preceding her in death was the father of her children Raymond Edward Staley, sister Marie Ferguson-Fraley and infant sister Gail Bowen. Survivors include a daughter Deborah (Paul) Baker of Wayne; a son David (Phyllis) Staley of Hinton, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Michele (Adrian) Rollyson, Leigh Ann (Brad) Wyrick and Paul Franklin Baker; five great-grandchildren, David "D.J." Staley, Madison Michele Rollyson, Makaylyn Baker, Braydon Baker and Dylan Wyrick; two sisters, Betty Jo Litton of Lebanon, Pa., and Margery "Bobbie" (Glenn) Coffman of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews. NANCY LAFAY SHEFFIELD, 61 of Lavalette, W. Va., went to be with her mother in heaven on Monday, February 27, 2012. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Bayminette, Alabama. Nancy was born on August 18, 1950, in Mobile, Ala., the daughter of the late Johnny Elvis Sheffield and Azilee Bouler Sheffield McCaw. DEANNA RUTH MILLS, 60, of Wayne, WV, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at her residence from complications of lung cancer. She was born March 29, 1951 in Huntington, WV, daughter of the late Cullie and Esther Luxmore Mills. After graduating from high school, Ruth got her degree in Child Development from Marshall University. She had a successful wallpaper and design business in St. Petersburg/Tampa Florida for over 30 years before moving back to her home town of Wayne to spend her last years with family and friends. Sisters Sue Mills Jacques and Crystal Rene Mills also preceded her in death. WAYNE EDWARD MAYNARD, 72, of Louisa, Ky. died February 27, 2012, at Community Hospice Care in Ashland, Ky. after a short illness. He was a coal yard supervisor for AEP and a member of Apperson Lodge 195, F&AM. He was a charter member of the Granddaddy Hunting Club. Born February 28, 1939 at Clifford, Ky., a son of the late Charles Lindsey and Dolly Elizabeth Lemaster Maynard, he was also preceded in death by two sisters; Geneva Cadle and Mallie Mae Maynard; and six brothers, Charles Jr. Maynard, Henry Maynard, Wendell Maynard, Lester Maynard, Joe Maynard and Jimmy Roger Maynard. He is survived by his loving wife Kay V. Maynard, Louisa, Ky., two sons; Brad (Valarie) Maynard of Louisa, Ky. and Luke (Marna) Maynard of Lancaster, Ohio. LUTHER FINLEY, 91, Of Washington Courthouse, Oh., formerly of Pecks Mill, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 27, 2012. He was born December 30, 1920 in Kiahsville, W.Va., a son of the late George and Belle Maynard Finley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Finley; two sons, Roger and Eddie Finley; and his second wife, Nadine Finley. Luther was a member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Pecks Mill. He proudly served our country during WWII in the US Navy and the Civilian Conservation Corp. He leaves behind one daughter, Judy and her husband John Manuse of Bainbridge, Oh.; two grandsons, Robert and Michael Blare of N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Bruce Finley officiating. ANNABELL MARCUM, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 20, 1929 in Clarksville, TN, a daughter of the late Wallace Hester and Louise Haggai Lester. Also preceding her in death were her loving husband of 48 years, Carl Austin Marcum, two brothers, W.D. and Buddy Hester, and two sisters, Barbara Hester and Sue Overton. She is survived by four daughters, Connie Barnett of Ravencliff, WV, Beverly Cravath (Darrell) of Clarksville, TN, Shelia Coburn (Jeff) and Sharon Adkins (Charlie), all of Kiahsville, WV; two sons, Paul Johnson (Maxine) of Hartsville, SC and Todd Marcum (Theresa) of Kiahsville, WV; two sisters, Ruby Brow3n (John) and Lottie Suiter, both of Clarksville, TN; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dog Zoey, her loving companion.

EDITH BREWER, 95, of Louisa, Ky. died February 28, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. She was an employee of Hinkle's Restaurant in Louisa during her working years and a longtime member of the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church. Born July 5, 1915 in Ft. Gay, W.Va. Edith was a daughter of the late Will and Stella Webb Watts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brewer who passed away in 1989, and a sister, Hazel Scott Edwards. Surviving are two daughters; Stella (Don) Adams and Brenda Akers, both of Louisa, Ky.; five sons, Gary Brewer, Kenny Brewer, and Larry (Connie) Brewer, all of Louisa, Ky., Charlie Brewer and Rick Brewer, both of Lexington, Ky.; four sisters, Ruby Watts, Ft. Gay, W.Va., Madge McCloud, Louisa, Ky., Lois Hewlett, Georgetown, Ky. and Trena Short, Louisa, Ky. Also eight grandchildren Brian (Sherita) Akers, Michael (Clyde) Akers, Justin (Christy) Meek, Eric Meek, Joy (Michael) Hogan, Heather (Keith) Smith, Travis (Mikki) Brewer and Jeffery Brewer; ten great grandchildren, Spencer, Abbey, Brooklyn, Tate, Caleb, Paylin, Evan, Blayne, Eyhen, Hannah, and Landyn. RONALD J. BARTRAM, of Fort Gay passed away at Three Rivers Hospital Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Bartram Chapel in Fort Gay. Burial will follow in the Frasher Cemetery in Fort Gay. He was born on May 21, 1925 in Fort Gay and was the son of the late Edgar and Malisa Bartram. He was a WWII veteran stationed with the 134th AAA Gun Battalion mobilized in the European Theatre. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Dolores Bartram of Fort Gay and his children Ed, Jack, and Jeff.

JAMES THOMAS ADKINS, 89, of Wayne, WV, formerly of Harrisville, WV, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 19, 1922 at Stiltner, WV, a son of the late Cain and Haney Napier Adkins. He was retired coal miner of 40 years and member of the United Mine Workers of America, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. His daughter, Brenda Lou Adkins Veres also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou Napier Adkins; four sons, James Dale (Carol) Adkins and Larry Thomas Adkins, all of Wayne, WV, Robert Cain (Sabrina) Adkins of Harrisville, WV, and Richard Jay (Kim) Adkiins of Jeffery, WV; a son-in-law, Gary Veres of St. Albans, WV; six grandchildren, Bobby Adkins (Jason) Lanham of Dayton, OH, Brandon (Jamie) Adkins and Carl (Allison) Adkins, all of Huntington, WV, Kyle Adkins of Chapmanville, WV, Ashley Meagan Adkins (Fred) Blind of Auburndale, FL, and Micah (Julia) Veres of Charleston, WV; a special great-granddaughter, Ava Grace of Auburndale.
