THOMAS EDMOND "NEWT" NEWTON, 72, of Chesapeake, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at the St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1940, in Huntington, to the late Tom and Mary Marie (McKenzie) Newton. He united in marriage to Sally N. (Lowe) Newton who survives. Mr. Newton retired from ACF Industries. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Thomas E. Newton Jr., Doris Marie Gibson, Victoria Lee Maynard, Dennis Allen Newton, David Earl Newton; six brothers and sisters, Patricia Warden, Larry "Corky" Newton, Robert Allen Newton, Faye Minor, Janice Sue Hensley, Kenneth Lee Newton. Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a special grandchild, Tasha Marie Newton; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Spring Valley Memory Gardens with Pastor Jamie Bailey officiating. MILDRED THOMPSON SELBEE, 88, of Genoa, went to be with her Lord on Saturday June 2, 2012. Mildred was born Jan. 1, 1924 in Wayne County, WV, the daughter of the late Enos and Margarett Dooly Thompson. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Pearl Selbee; two brothers, three sisters, and six Nieces and Nephews. Survivors include a very special extended family who cared for her Jack and Virginia Porter and family of Genoa, WV.; nieces and nephews Dixie Racine Thompson, Linda C. Sluss, Joe Ann Elkins Stevens, Dorothy Dawn Meredith, Beverly Ann Felt, and Clifford Ronald Thompson and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by Bros Lemuel Little and Frank Copley on Tuesday June 5th at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Thompson Cemetery on Vinson Branch Fort Gay. Friends called after 9:00 am Tuesday and until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.

LARRY E. SPURLOCK, 60, of Wayne, W. Va., passed away at 5:30 a.m. on June 3, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Michael Dillon. Burial will follow at Greenbottom Cemetery, Lesage, W.Va. He was born on June 18, 1951, in Milton, W.Va., the son of the late Les and Maude Scarberry Spurlock. A brother, Bobby also preceded him in death. Larry was a machinist for 35 years at the CSX Huntington Shop. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. Larry was also a member of the Harmony Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife Anna Romaine Kitts Spurlock; four brothers and sisters, Gary, Nancy, Peggy and Jim; seven children, Vickie, Judy, Scott, Phillip, Brian, Lee and Jack; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Larry was loved and will be sincerely missed by all. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne.

CORENNA DEAN MEADE, 77, of Ceredo, W. Va., died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. She was born November 13, 1934, in West Hamlin, W. Va., a daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Dean. Corenna was a homemaker caring for her family and also worked as an LPN at Cabell Huntington Hospital for many years. She loved music and playing the piano. She was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Ceredo and served as its pianist for more than 30 years. Corenna also liked to dance, including ballroom dancing, and attended dances at many of the area senior centers. She also enjoyed traveling and took many trips with the Forever Young group. Corenna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bobbie Meade and two brothers, Johnny Dailey and Gwendy Runyon. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Robert W. and Alesha Meade of Westmoreland; two daughters and one son-in-law, Paula E. Meade of Ravenswood and Cathy J. and Wally Hale of Ceredo; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hale Ferguson, Juli Hale Dean and her husband Jay, Emily Bugher and her husband Chris, James Nelson, Tyler Meade, Tanner Meade and Alex Fortson; three great-grandchildren, Bailey and Claire Ferguson and Peyton Dean; one sister Virginia Johnson; and two special friends, Dreama Akers and Reva Freeman. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W. Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bob Patton officiating. LOUISA VIRGINIA ISAACS LUCAS, 69, of Ceredo, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Church of God, 16th and Maple Streets, Kenova, by the Rev. J. Rabun Haddock, Rev. Jody Lucas and Rev. Terry Wagner. Burial will be in Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born on November 1, 1942, in Logan, W. Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Nelson Isaacs. She was a member of Kenova Church of God. She served as a minister's wife for 40 years. She was preceded in death by sister Velma Isaacs and brother James C. Isaacs, and granddaughter Cassandra. She is survived by her husband Rev. James M. Lucas; one daughter and son-in-law Alisa and Douglas Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; and four sons and three daughter-in-laws, Keith and Joanna Lucas of Kenova, W. Va., Rodney and Mary Ann Lucas of Ironton, Ohio, Mark Lucas of Clinton, Tenn., and David and Loretta Lucas of Barboursville, W. Va.; two granddaughters, Sarah and Faith, four grandsons, Adam, Lucas, Michael and Derek; three brothers and three sister-in-laws, Charles and Donna Isaacs and Gerald Isaacs of East Lynn, W.Va., and Paul and Lillian Isaacs of Tecumseh, Mich.; Maudie Isaacs of Barboursville, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. THOMAS VAUGHN HAZLETT, 68, of Louisa, Ky., passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Community Hospice of Ashland, Ky. He was born December 22, 1943 at Zelda, Ky. a son of the late Pritchard and Margaret Lambert Hazlett of Zelda, Ky. He was a U.S.A.F. Veteran, serving as a Presidential Honor Guard and retired from the Federal Government. He was a member of the Buchanan Chapel Church at Zelda, Ky. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Hazlett. Survivors include, His loving wife Ida McGuire Hazlett of Louisa, Ky.; one daughter, Lynn Syvrud of Ashland, Ky.; two sons, Thomas V. (Tonya) Hazlett II of Battle Ground, Washington; Matthew (Jennifier) Hazlett of Fairbanks, Alaska; one brother, James Harry Hazlett of Louisa, Ky.; 8 Grandchildren. Tom was honored with a celebration oftife party on May 26, 2012 from family and friends. There will be no other services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice. Young Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

VERNIA COMBS MEADE, 80, of Fort Gay, WV went to be with her Lord on Monday June 4, 2012. Vernia was born Jan. 12, 1932 at Isom, KY, the daughter of the late Jerdon and Sarah Combs. She was also preceded in death by her husband George Walter Meade who died in 2002, two sons Lawrence and Daniel Meade. Survivors include two daughters Avenal Walker and husband Billy and Elizabeth Hannah and husband Leslie; four sons David and wife Cheryl, Joe and wife Pat, Andy and wife Rhonda and Ishmel Meade; daughter-in-law Heidi Meade and sister Juanita Johnson. She has twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday June 8th at 1:00 pm at the Golden Springs FWB Church by Rev. Bobby Perry. Burial will follow in the Damron Cemetery at Stonecoal, WV. Friends may call after 5:00 pm Wednesday and after 5:00 pm Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home Louisa, KY.

EDGAR RAY HALL, 70, of Wayne, W. Va., passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born July 28, 1941 in East Lynn, W. Va., a son of the late Raymond Hall and Reda Bradshaw Hall. Survivors include his wife, Carolynn Hall; one daughter, Renee Hall of Barboursville, W. Va.; two sons, Edgar Ray Hall II of Ashland, Ky., and Dale Hall and his wife Missy of South Point, Oh.; and two grandchildren, Tayler Hall and Tanner Hall, both of South Point. Also surviving are three sisters, Jean Waldorff of Chattanooga, Tenn., Alma Wilson, and Joyce Watts and her husband Jack, all of Wayne; and two brothers, Danny Lee Hall of Monroe, Tenn., and Gary Alan Hall of Jackson, Oh. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Patrick Creek Cemetery, Genoa, W. Va. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.

BELVA V. SANSOM, 99, of Wayne, W. Va., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. She was born March 4, 1913 in Wayne County, W. Va., a daughter of the late Charles and Stella Osburn. One son, Jackie Sansom also preceded her in death, along with one brother, Jennings Osburn, and one sister, Ellen. She leaves behind four sisters, Lena, Mary, Vora, and Dixie ; two brothers, Dennis and Orvil. Belva also leaves a real close church family of brothers and sisters in Christ of the Church of Christ , Bluefield Avenue , Wayne, who were a close support for her. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Minister Ron Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Crockett Cemetery . ANNA MAE NICOLLS, 89, of Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, widow of Carl Nicolls, died June 6, 2012, at Arbors at Gallipolis. She was a homemaker. JOLLIFFE "JOLLY" WHEELER BARTRAM, 75, of New Concord, Ohio, formerly of Barboursville, W. Va., died, Thursday, June 7, 2012, in Kobacker Hospice House, Columbus, Ohio. He was born July 12, 1936, in Fort Gay, W. Va., the son of the late Carl and Lelah Wheeler Bartram. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, with Rev. Chelcie Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He is survived by his wife Helen Asbury Bartram of New Concord, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl (Ron) Tank of Cambridge, Ohio, Stephanie (Vince) Contini of Powell, Ohio; one brother Jerry Bartram of Prichard, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Ava and Wyatt, Tank, Peyton and Brinley Contini. He was a U.S. Army and WV National Guard veteran, attended the Westwood Baptist Church, Zanesville, Ohio and was retired from Special Metals, Huntington, W.Va. FAYE ADKINS NANCE, 74, of Wayne, W. Va. passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at her home. She was born March 28, 1938 in Wayne County W. Va. a daughter of the late Harlan Lee and Clara Davis Adkins. Also preceding her in death were four brothers; one sister; one granddaughter, Valerie Lynn Nicely; one great-grandchild, Rylan Avery Cristensen. She leaves behind her loving husband, Jack Nance; six children, Randall Nicely, Susie Nicely McDaniel and her husband Johnny, all of Wayne, Jeff Nicely of Toledo, Oh., Harlan Nicely and his wife Criss of Wooster, Oh., Jackie Nance McCoy, and Valerie Nance, both of Wayne; one special granddaughter, Melissa Nicely, of Wayne; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother John Gilkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. BARBARA ELLEN GUE, 78, of Barboursville, a former resident of Lavalette for 50 years, widow of Lyle W. Gue, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 8, 2012. She was a Baptist by faith. Bobbie was born July 30, 1933, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Anthony Wayne and Gladys Ruth Hancock Hutchison. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Jack, Guy and Harold Wayne Hutchison; four sisters, Eva Ross, Ruby Marshall, Mildred Jack and Oneida Frazier; and a grandchild, Bethcinda Sue Plybon. Bobbie leaves behind her four loving children, Rita Gray, Stephen Michael, Sue Ellen Gue and Tammy Plybon; six grandchildren, Tony Gray, Amanda Voiers, Cassie Huff and Mackenzie, Barbara Jo, Frank Plybon Jr.; also seven loving great-grandchildren. Bobbie was a proud retiree of Owens-Illinois. Her favorite rose was pink, and her favorite movie was "Steel Magnolias." She loved taking vacations and enjoying life with her sister-in-law, Lois Gue, grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Gordon Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. CAROLYN JANE BOWMAN, 71, of Kenova, W. Va., passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Buffalo Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Jaynes officiating. Interment will follow in Buckeye Cemetery, Ohio Furnace, Ohio. Carolyn was born June 8, 1941, in St. Helens, Oregon, daughter of Lorraine L. Gibson of Kenova and the late James M. Skipworth. She was retired from North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie, Md. Besides her father she was also preceded in death by one daughter Dawn Bernice Jenkins. Survivors, besides her mother, include her two sons Glenn Bowman of Pennsylvania and Jeffery Bowman of Maryland; three brothers James M. Skipworth of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Terry Gillum of Glen Burnie, Md., and Randy Gillum of Kenova; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. JOHN E. FORTNER, 66, of Columbus, Ohio, died Saturday, June 9, 2012. He was born May 9, 1946, in Wayne County, W. Va., to the late John H. and Sadie (Lowe) Fortner. GLORIA JEAN STEWART PERRY, 80, of Ceredo, W. Va., passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, at her daughters' residence. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Kenova Church of God, of which she was a member, with Pastor J. Rabun Haddock officiating. Interment will follow in Frye Cemetery, Verdunville, W. Va. Gloria was born July 9, 1931, in Webbville, Ky., a daughter of the late Fred "Mac" McHenry and Candice May Chaffin Stewart. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Denver Perry and two sisters, Vervia Sowers and Merlia McDavid. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Trina Lynn (Gregory) Adkins of Ceredo, W. Va.; one granddaughter Brooklyn Adkins and one grandson Bryson Adkins, both of Ceredo, W. Va.; one sister and brother-in-law Totsy (Dale) Harwood; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, J.D. (Christine) Stewart, Alden (Pat) Stewart and Maxwell Ray "Macky" Stewart and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. RENITA RENE MOORE, 44, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at her home. She was born December 5, 1967 in Louisa, Ky., a daughter of Laura Cantrell Perry and the late Curtis Perry. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brushy Fork United Baptist Church. Survivors include her mother, Laura Perry of Louisa, her loving husband, Eddie Moore of Louisa,Ky.; one daughter, Brittany Moore; two sons; Sonny Moore and Wade Moore all of Louisa, Ky., three sisters; Bonnie Perry, Rosie Perry, and Connie McKenzie all of Louisa, Ky., two brothers; Ronnie Perry of Louisa, Ky. and Donnie Perry, Flemingsburg, Ky., one grandchild, Chloe Elizabeth Moore and lots of loved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Brushy Fork United Baptist Church with Elder Frank Blevins, Elder Daris Lewis and Elder David Wolfenburger officiating. BETTY JO WILLIAMSON MAYNARD, 72, of Huntington, W. Va., passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center due to a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W. Va., by Brother Sam Frye. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born March 23, 1940 in Ranger, W. Va., a daughter of the late Rev. Ivory and Laura Maynard Williamson. Betty was self-employed and previously worked at Corbin Ltd. Three sisters, Wavie Wiley, Ava Kirk and Theba Drusilla Elder also preceded her in death, along with four brothers, Jason, Lester, Wiley and Sanford Williamson, a sister-in-law Millie Williamson, her father and mother-in-law Reuben and Victoria Maynard, a grandson Darryl Joe Maynard, II, and a special friend Leonard Harold Adkins. Survivors include her ex-husband Bud Maynard of Lavalette, W. Va.; a son Darryl Joe (Wanda) Maynard of Wayne; three daughters, Edna Pauley of Wayne, Vickie Vera and Laura Sutphin, both of Huntington; two sisters, Aquila (Jason) Adkins of Wayne and Georgia (Greg) Wilson of Kenova, W. Va.; five brothers, John (Norma) Williamson of Lavalette, Robert (Sue) Williamson of Huntington, Ivory (Carol) Williamson of Wayne, Arthur (Kathy) Williamson of Prichard, W. Va., and Orval (Linda) Williamson of Prichard; seven grandchildren, Leslie Shawn, Justin Shane Vera, and very special granddaughter Tequila Renee Sutphin of Huntington (all of whom she raised as her own) Renee Pauley, Linda Blower and Betty Stroud, all of Wayne, and Jessica Blankenship of Huntington; five great-grandchildren, Brittany and Bailey Pauley, Bryan Blower, Telissa Stroud ,all of Wayne and Kasey Blankenship of Huntington. Pallbearers will be Leslie Shawn and Justin Shane Vera, Bailey Pauley, Ivory, Arthur, Orville Williamson, Jeff Elder and Andrew Pruitt. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne. There will be a reception following the funeral service on Sunday at Salem United Baptist Church, Rt. 37, Wayne.

LILLIE MAE LOVINS, 60, of Fort Gay went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, KY. She was born December 9, 1951 and the oldest daughter of the late Emery and Viola Tackett Cyrus of Fort Gay, W. Va. Mae was a homemaker and a member of the Upper Tabors Creek Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Lovins Sr. Survivors include her son, Donald Lovins Jr., of Iowa; an Uncle Kennis Tackett of Toler, KY; four sisters: Linda Elliott, Lurline Smith, and Margaret Meade all of Fort Gay, W. Va., and Oakie Pickleseimer of Fort Collins, Colorado; three brothers: Delbert Cyrus, Pharon "Bud" Cyrus, both of Fort Gay, W. Va.; and Vinson Cyrus of Belfry, KY. Mae was blessed with many precious nieces and nephews including Karen Sue Cyrus and Jennifer Lynn Cyrus of Fort Gay, W. Va. whom she held dear to her heart. Special thanks to her caretaker and friend Hattie Kitts Marcum of Fort Gay, W. Va. for her services. Visitation was after 11:00 am Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Oak Grove Church in Fort Gay. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 am by Rev. Tommy Kitts and Rev. Casey Cyrus on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Oak Grove Church with burial following at the Cyrus Family Cemetery on Meeting House Branch Road in Fort Gay The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Young’s Funeral Home in Louisa, KY in memory of Mae Lovins and a special "Thank You," to everyone for their prayers, kind words and gestures. As Mae would always say, "I love you!" with a BIG hug.

TAMMY JO PERRY, 46, of Huntington, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Tammy was born July 1, 1965 in New Jersey. Her mother, Virginia Donovan Edlund preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey K. Perry; her father, Norman Edlund Sr.; her son, Michael Enders; her sister, Denise Lanoue; two brothers, Dewight and Norman Edlund; two nieces and a nephew, Stephanie, Jennifer, and John-Jason Lanoue, and their children Chloe and Jason. Also surviving are her in-laws, John Bill and Irna Leah Perry, and Neta Perry; care-taker Mary Arthur; step-daughter Jordan Perry; two step-sons, Jacob Perry, and Chris Edwards and his wife Sarah Edwards; as well as three grandchildren, Haley, Brooklynn, and Bohdan; along with many friends. A special thanks goes to Randy and Lisa Perry, as well as their church for all their prayers. I know Tammy would want to thank her best friend, Teresa Mannon, along with Brenda Young, Georgia Bryant, Brenda Napier, and all of her customers. JOANN ADKINS, 72, of Wayne, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born November 2, 1939, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Cleo and Fannie Adkins Plybon. She is also preceded in death by five brothers, Bill, Cleo Jr., Frank, Don and Jackie and one sister Rebecca McComas. She is survived by her husband Willie Ray Adkins Sr.; three daughters, Isabelle Adkins Bowen (Roger), Fannie JoAnn Bias (Larry) and Joy Melissa Nelson (Glenn); two sons, Willie Ray Adkins Jr., (Gloria Jean) and Presley Cleo Adkins (Shelly); two sisters, Rosie Leep (Ray) and Karen Dixon; three brothers, Carol Plybon, Danny Plybon (Linda) and Bob Plybon (Cheryl); eleven grandchildren, Anndrea, Greg, Willie Joe, Jessica, Bridget, Larry Ray, P. J., Cassie, Isabella, Waylon and Daniel; seven great-grandchildren, Ashton, Gavin, Addie, Annie, Alexis, Larry Dale and Jessalyn; and her two little dogs, Josie and Chester. She had a special closeness with her granddaughter Isabella JoAnn Adkins. JoAnn was a softball player, a coach for many years, an umpire and she loved her players. So for many years, if you were looking for JoAnn, you would more than likely find her at the ballfield. She loved to travel, loved the mountains, and enjoyed making short trips. JORDAN KYLER HOLYFIELD, son of Jason Adam and Ashlee Jordyn Spaulding Holyfield, of Stepptown, W. Va., was called home to God on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 1 year, 4 months and 3 days old. During his brief time among us, he cheered us with his beautiful smile and inspired us with his uncommon courage. He greeted all he saw with a friendly "Hi There". Kyler is preceded in death by a cousin, Caleb Toney. WILLIAM "BILL" G. CALDWELL, 77, of Fort Gay, W. Va., passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born September 26, 1934 in Wayne County, W. Va., a son of the late Keither and Ruthie Mae Caldwell. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Denvil Caldwell and Ervin Caldwell; and five sisters, Thelma Caldwell, Barbra Caldwell, Sarah Ann Caldwell Whitt, Dora Nelson, and Frankie Nelson. Survivors include the mother of four of his children, Esta Marie Caldwell of Genoa, W.Va.; two sons, William App Caldwell and his wife Cheryl of Genoa, and Roy Caldwell of Wayne, W. Va.; two daughters, Debbie Moore and her husband Darrel of Wayne, and Patty Stapleton and her husband Rick of East Lynn, W. Va.; and two other sons, Billy and Dale of unknown location. He is also survived by two brothers, Sammie K. Caldwell and his wife Shirley of Poca, W. KEN MAYNARD, 76, formerly of Wayne County, W. Va., passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at North Fort Myers, Florida, following a long illness. LARRY ALAN DIXON, SR., 60, of Westmoreland died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Mr. Dixon was born September 29, 1951, to the late Lila Mease and Ray Dixon. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife Rose M. Dixon, children Alisha (Maurice) Campbell and Larry (Hannah) Dixon, Jr.; grandchildren Tanner, Elijah, Campbell and Gabriel Dixon; brother Michael (Jane) Dixon and sister Gwen (Brad) Meade; and sister-in-law Rosie (Carl) Pults. MILDRED KIEFER, 90, passed away on June 20, 2012, of natural causes in Peoria, Arizona. She was born and raised in Kenova, West Virginia, and was a resident of Sun City, Arizona for the past 35 years. Mildred was a college professor at State University College, New York, retiring in 1976. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Howard Kiefer; brothers Bert Crabtree and Ray Crabtree; and sister Dorothy Lee Barrett. She is survived by her brother, Fred Crabtree of Defiance, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred was loved and admired by all who knew her. At her request, there will be no funeral services.

LAWRENCE F. "BLACKIE" LAKIN, 86, of Huntington, West Virginia, died on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness. He was born September 4, 1925, the son of the late James and Lyda Frazier Lakin of Fort Gay, West Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Doris Short Lakin; his beloved son Michael Scott Lakin on December 22, 2011; two sisters, Blanche Wellman and Virgie Pelfrey; and one brother Richard L. Lakin , who was killed in action in 1945 fighting against the German army during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou Pelfrey Lakin, and their children Richard L. Lakin (Kaye) of Ashland, Kentucky, Patti Lakin Smith (Ted) of Milton, West Virginia, Larry M. Pelfrey (Teresa) of Huntington, West Virginia and Lynn Pelfrey Kearns (John), of Oak Hill, Virginia. He was a very caring grandfather to Andrew Richard Lakin; Kathryn Patricia Lakin; Andrew and Tyler Pelfrey and Jack, Bradley and Caroline Kearns. He is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Wright (Clifford) of Richmond, Kentucky, Mary E. (Glendell) Frasher of Columbus, Ohio and Sue Stanley (Jay) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law Gloria Short Billups (James) of Louisa, Kentucky, Carole Short Yetter (Ed) of Zanesville, Ohio, Treva Watts Short (Bill) of Louisa, Kentucky, Margaret Ann Michael (Ralph) of Fort Gay, West Virginia and Dorothy Wellman Perry (David), of Orlando, Florida; and brother-in-law Joe Wellman of Fort Gay, W. Va. He also leaves behind a host of adoring nieces, nephews, and their children. He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. He saw action against the Japanese Imperial Army on the on the island of Luzon, P.I., where he was severely tlinewounded. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation medal, Good Conduct medal, and Combat Infantryman's badge. He retired as chief dispatcher from Norfolk-Southern Railroad, where he was employed for 38 years. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Huntington, West Virginia, and of American Legion Post 93, who will conduct military rights. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 1064. Visitation will be at Reger Funeral Home on Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington, by Dr. Allen Reasons. ANDREW "BUD" WHITE, 73, of Sullivan went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2012. After a battle with cancer, he passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Logan, WV on November 13, 1938 to Andrew and Ava (nee Ellis) White, Andrew grew up in Wayne County, WV. In 1957, he moved to OH and settled in Sullivan in 1972. Andrew worked at the Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, OH, retiring as general foreman. A devoted servant of the Lord, Andrew served as deacon of Pleasant View Church for many years; he was a lifetime farmer and avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eloise (nee Maynard) White; and two sons, Dana (Tammy Lyn) of Sullivan and Darren (Tammy Marie) of Ashland; grandchildren: Michelle White, Rachel Motter (Christian), Dillon White, Darren White II, Spencer White and Hannah White. DR. C. SID DAVIS, 39, of Flagstaff, Arizonia formerly of Fort Gay, W. Va., passed away June 21, 2012. He was born Dec. 27, 1972, in Huntington, W. Va., to Norman E. Davis and Carol Lycan Davis. He was raised in Fort Gay and graduated from Guilford College in 1995. He then attended West Virginia Dental School, graduating in 1999, at which time he came to Arizona and worked as a dentist on the Hopi Reservation in Polacca then moved to Flagstaff in 2002, working with Dr. Gregory Kleiner until purchasing the practice in 2005. Dr. Davis enjoyed snowboarding, motorcycles, disc golf, rock climbing, sky diving, kayaking, river rafting and any new adventure that came his way. He is survived by his parents Norman and Carol Davis; sister Amy (Kyle) Bellomy; nieces Shelby Bellomy and Lindsey Grace Bellomy; and his grandmother Mildred Davis. In addition to wife Carol, Jerry is survived by children Jeff of West Virginia, Jon of Florida, Jennifer Chambers of Florida and Jeri-Lynn Watts of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; step-children Rick and Tim McWaters and Miles Horsley; half brother Fred Beuhuing of Pennsylvania; father-in-law Leo Hare of Bucyrus; and his pet dog "Pepi". Jerry retired from CSX and then worked at Transco as Vice President of Engineering, retiring after 23 years. He moved to Bucyrus 23 years ago from Huntington, W.Va., and was a member of the Bucyrus Moose, Elks Lodge where he was the former Treasurer, and the Sons of Amvets. Jerry enjoyed bowling, darts, and golfing. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus, Ohio. ETHEL PAULINE LUNDY, 65, of Prudenville, Michigan passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at West Branch Regional Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1946, in Logan, West Virginia to Curtis and Virgie Nelson Williamson. She moved to the Houghton Lake area from Pontiac, Michigan in 1995. Ethel was a school bus driver in Orlando, Florida and worked at Corigan Pants Company as a seamstress for several years. Ethel enjoyed sewing and belonged to the Houghton Lake Senior Center Sewing Club. Ms. Lundy is survived by her father and step-mother Curtis H. Sr., and Loretta Williamson of Wayne, W.Va.; son Ronald Scott Lundy of Savanah, Tenn.; daughters Emily Lundy and Pamela Lundy, both of Florida; brothers Otis Williamson of Houghton Lake, Mich., and Curtis H. (Terry) Williamson Jr. of Charleston, W.Va.; sister Carolyn Sue Roaman of Davison, Mich., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Virgie Williamson. DENNIS E. WORKMAN, 81, of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Ashland and Jacksonville Beach, Fla., went to be in the presence of the Lord, Monday, June 25, 2012, with his family at his side, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Kenova, W. Va., a son of the late Jay and Palma Pinson Workman. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Lowe. He attended Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Ashland and was a member of the Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. He served as former pastor at Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He worked as a realtor for several years in Ashland, Ky., with Paul Woods Realty and Ross Realty. He retired as a project engineer from National Benevolent Association in Jacksonville, Fla. He loved the Lord, his family and life, and had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and the ocean. His favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:34-35, "it is Christ that died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" Survivors include his loving wife, Sandra Hensley Workman of South Point, Ohio; sons, Matt Workman and wife Cindy of Barboursville, W. Va., Mark Workman of Huntington, W. Va.; stepsons, Keith Castle of Ashland and Dwayne (Rhonda) Castle of Kenova, W. Va.; daughters, Kim Damron and Sharon Bellomy; sister, Deloris "Dody" (George Ed) Smith; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A praise and worship service in celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church, 13136 State Route 180, Ashland, Ky. HERBERT MAYNARD, 91, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Funeral Services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel at Wayne County, WV by David Atkins and Charles Maynard. Burial will follow on Monday, at 10:00 AM, July 2, 2012, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova, WV. He was born in Wilsondale, West Virginia on April 1, 1921 to the late Dewey Maynard and Charity Maynard Arrowood. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. After the war he worked as a barber, ran the Bowery Mission in New York and for many years served as a Baptist Minister. In his later years he was employed at the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Fl and played the part of "Aaron, the high priest, and Moses". He retired at age 88. His brother Archie Maynard and wife Mary Spray Maynard, Obie Maynard and wife Ollie Kirk Maynard as well as infant siblings preceded him in death. Survivors include brother William Ralph Maynard and wife Marilyn, daughters Donna M. Lynam and husband Roy of Wake Forest, NC; Deborah M. Scholz and husband Randy of Sterling, Va; Marty M. Siu of Wilmington, NC; Robin Maynard of Orlando, Fl; seven grandchildren, Angela Suggs, Christa Lynam, Leah Smith, Nicholas Muhar, Michael, Logan and Kalia Siu; five great grandchildren, Lynam and Christin Suggs, Taryn Waldorf and Jonas Black and Lucian Smith. RANSOM PARIS DAVIS, 92, of Wayne, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 28, 2012. He was a son of the late Leo and Polly Keck Davis. JOHN HENRY ROWE, 87, of Genoa, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Burial will follow at the Cassidy Thompson Cemetery, Genoa. He was born on July 26, 1924 in Wayne County, WV to the late William "Bill" Rowe & Evaline Copley Rowe. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Georgia Cyrus Rowe, five brothers: Dude, Ralph, Curtis, Burgess and Ray Rowe and three sisters Emmie Rowe Cook, Vennie Rowe Kitts and Olive Rowe Robertson. John is survived by his three sisters: Florida Rowe Robertson of Fort Gay, WV, Jewel Rowe Watts of Kenova, WV and Hazel Rowe Harvey of Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to his nephew Roger and his wife Kim Rowe for the care they gave to him and also to Jasmine and Kaden Bartram.
