AMERICA DONAHOE ALIFF, 96, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Carl Lilly. Burial will be in the Donahoe Cemetery, East Lynn, W.Va. She was born July 11, 1916, at East Lynn, W.Va., a daughter of the late William and Anna Adams. She was a retired seamstress. She was also retired from the former Huntington Manufacturing Company and she worked for the Wayne County Community Services. America was a member of the Haney's Branch Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Burl Reed Donahoe; her second husband, Ivan Aliff; three brothers, Karo, Canso and Moscow Adams; and five sisters, Nancy Kinder, Spicie Belcher, Mitti Burns, Jessie Blankenship and her twin sister, Pauline Morrison. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James William and Dorothy Donahoe of South Point, Ohio; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Anna Mae Donahoe, who took care of her, and Lola Belcher. CARL ALLEN ADKINS, 29, of Huntington, WV, died Friday, March 1, 2013 in Logan, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Brother Buster Maynard and Elder Leo Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens at Wayne. He was born February 13, 1984 at Charleston, WV, a son of Larry Adkins of Wayne, WV, and Carrie Dingess Dye of Cairo, WV. He was a practicing attorney in Logan, WV and was a member of the West Virginia Bar Association. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Adkins and Romie Dingess; an aunt, Brenda Adkins Veres. Additional survivors include his fiancée, Allison Subacz of Huntington, WV and their dogs, Tiqui, Remy and Fat Head along with their cat, Hercules; his brother, Kyle Anthony Adkins of Huntington, WV; his paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Adkins of Wayne, WV and maternal grandmother, Victoria Dingess of Cairo, WV; and six very special cousins, Brandon Adkins of Huntington, WV, Bobbie Lynn Lanham of Dayton, WV, Ashley Meagan Blind of Auburndale, FL, Micah Veres of Charleston, WV, Amanda Tomblin of Chapmanville, WV, Kevin Dingess of Teays Valley, WV. JOHN H. DALTON, 73, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born May 16, 1939 in Wayne County, West Virginia a son of the late John Henry and Dora Adkins Dalton. His brother Ezra Benton Dalton also preceded him in death. He leaves behind three brothers, Willis Dalton, Charles Dalton, and Edd Dalton; four sisters, Margaret Queen, Martha Napier, Nancy McCoy, and Angeline Sias; special nephew Willis Dalton and his wife Angela, with whom he made his home; and a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Freedom Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Marcum. Burial will follow in the Ross Cemetery, East Lynn, W.Va. LOLA BROOKE NAPIER, 87, of Ashley, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with her son Ted Napier officiating. Burial will follow at Napier Cemetery, Wilson Creek. She was born on December 28, 1925 in Louisa, Kentucky to the late James Porter and Lutie Perry Porter. Lola was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Lee Napier, two granddaughters, Catherine Lynn & Carla Joan Napier and two brothers Ernest & Lewis Porter. Surviving are her four sons: Ted Lee Napier and wife Nancy of Mt. Gillian, Ohio, Russell Lynn Napier and wife Annabell of Denver Colorado, Ernie Glen Napier and wife Judith Lynn of Ashland, Kentucky, James Douglas Napier and wife Denise Bell of Atlantic Beach, Florida and brother Roy Porter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. LARRY GENE REYNOLDS, 63, of Wayne, W.Va. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2013. He was born December 9, 1949 in Winston Salem, N.C., a son of the late Gilbert and Sarah Reynolds. Survivors include his brother, Gilbert Reynolds of Winston Salem; and special friends Mark and Lauren Haddix, with whom he made his home; and their sons, Luke and Clay, all of Wayne. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and attended Wayne United Methodist Church. Private services will be held at a later date. JOHNNY DALE “Bit” THACKER, 75 of Shoals, WV and Wilgus, OH, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013. “Bit” was born on February 2, 1938 to the late Thurman H. “Tod” and Alma P. Thacker in Huntington (Wayne County), West Virginia. “Bit” was not only preceded in death by his parents, but also, his sister, Geraline (Willard) Holley and two brothers, R. Gene (Patricia) Thacker and Donald G. Thacker, Sr. Also preceding him in death were two nephews, Jeffrey A. and Bradley G. Thacker, and one niece, Pamela Thacker Slavens. Johnny is survived by his wife, Leigh Thacker. Also surviving Johnny are two sisters, Janice G. (Raymond) Mynes, of Austin, TX and Brenda A. Thacker of Huntington, plus two brothers, Paul R. (Sandee) Thacker and Dallas K. (Marlene) Thacker, both of Huntington. Johnny is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Peggy (Michael) Gibson, Debbie (Paul) Martin of Huntington, WV, and Becky Thacker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Stephen (Carol) Mynes and Tammy (Mark) Mynes-Bostick, of Austin, TX, Donald G. Thacker, Jr., of Lake Worth, FL, Lesley Fuller of Huntington,WV, P.Jason Thacker, of Willington, FL, Danielle(Hal) Stewart of Hurricane WV, and Jordan H. Thacker of Huntington, WV. Johnny is also survived by a host of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; plus, many dear and treasured friends. “Bit” was a retired Mill Equipment Supervisor at Steel of WV and an owner of two working farms. “Bit” served honorably in the US Army and the WV Army National Guard, serving with the 468th Field Artillery. “Bit” was a member of the Shoals Missionary Baptist Church, Shoal, and WV where he served as a Sunday school Superintendent and Trustee for many years. “Bit’s” wife and family would like to thank everyone for their many acts of love and kindness shown to him during his life, especially his last year. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Reger Funeral Chapel officiated by Pastor Larry Skidmore and Pastor Roger Pierce. Interment will be at the Spring Valley Memory Gardens. EDWARD NELSON, 65, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne with Brother Gary Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. Edward was born on May 24, 1947, in Gill, W.Va., to the late Leonard Nelson and Lucy Cochran Nelson. He was an operator for Cardinal Construction. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Leonard Nelson Jr., and sister, Linda Sue Adams. Surviving at home is Lisa. Also surviving are his three sons, Jeff Nelson of Lavalette, Tim Nelson (Hiromi) of Stafford, Va., and Kris Nelson (Britta) of Ironton, Ohio; sister, Lois Smith (Roscoe) of Cove Gap; and six grandchildren, Caitlin, Kelsey, Hope, Brady, Kyle and Kylie. LARRY NEWTON BLANKENSHIP, 74, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital. His loving family was there with him as he entered the portals of Heaven. Larry was born Feb. 27, 1939, to Burl and Lucy Dean Blankenship. He was predeceased by his father, mother and sisters, Loretta Merle Blankenship, Evelyn Toney and Jacqueline "Hilda" Waggoner. Larry and Dottie accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior on March 13, 1960, at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Brother Leo Gibson baptized them on March 20, 1960. He married Dottie Lou Tabor on March 26, 1960, in Wayne County, W.Va. He is survived by his loving wife, Dottie; two daughters who loved him very much, Kimberly (Randy) Trautwein and Beverly (John) Nidy; and grandchildren who loved their precious Papaw, Heather Lee Brown, Michelle Dawn (Donnie) Davis, John Wesley (Caitlin) Trautwein, Jason Robert Trautwein and Kevin Richard Trautwein. He had one precious great-grandson, Bryson William Davis. He is also survived by sisters, Elenor (Andrew) Fry, Sally Ann (Sherman) Moore and Karen Blankenship; sisters-in-law, Bernice (Joe) Maynard, Betty (David) Varney and Judy Adkins; aunts, Maxine Hall and Kathleen Boothe, uncle, John Blankenship; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry worked at The Herald-Dispatch for 37 years. He was blessed by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to people and seeing them come to Christ. Larry's first church was Haynie's Branch Baptist. He also was the pastor at Bethesda Missionary Baptist and Big Hurricane Missionary Baptist before he retired. He loved people and they in turn loved him. His family and friends will always remember him but rejoice in knowing they will meet him again. Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home. ARTHA LEE MCCARTY, 70 of Ceredo, W.Va., looked into the eyes of Jesus and was welcomed home at 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. She was born March 9, 1942, in Ceredo, W.Va., the daughter of the late Dennie and Beulah Via Walters. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, at Henson & Kitchen Family Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va., with Bishop Ray Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington, W.Va. She was a homemaker and was Pentecostal by faith. She was also preceded in death by one brother Charles Walters, one sister America Walters, one sister-in-law Mary A. Walters and two sons, Dennis Monroe and Terry Michael McCarty. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rev. Zeldon McCarty; three sons, Gregory McCarty and Timothy (Donessa) McCarty and Shannon (Tammy) McCarty, all of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Leisha (Bill) Messmer of Rush, Ky., and Crystal McCarty of Ceredo, W.Va.; three brothers, Santford "Pete" Walters of Ceredo, W.Va., Rick Walters (Alberta) of Proctorville, Ohio and Darrell Walters of Huntington, W.Va.; one sister, Shirley (Jay) Finley of Ceredo, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. RALPH EDWARD COPLEY, 60, of Fort Gay, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. He was born July 6, 1952 in Crum, a son of the late Dewey and Hazel Rose Copley. He was a coal miner and member of Vinson Lodge #66 Fort Gay and he was also a member of Scottish Rites. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Joyce Vinson Copley. Survivors include, one son, Blake Edward Copley of Huntington, W.V.; one grandchild, Rori Copley also of Huntington, W.V.; one sister, Betty Muncy of Fort Gay, W.V.; two brothers, Clarence Copley and William Copley both of Crum. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Wilhite and Rev. Ray Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. JESSIE BLANTON, 87, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born April 23, 1925, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Rowe Price and Eva Price Ellis. Her husband, Clarence "Buck" Blanton, also preceded her in death along with two brothers, James Willard Price and Junior Price, and three sisters, infant Blanche Price, Louise Prentiss, and Dolly Clark Burch. Survivors include one daughter, Bertha Blanton; three brothers, Robert Price of Ironton, Ohio, Charles Price of Columbus, Ohio, and Paul Glenn Price of Columbia, S.C.; nieces, Cortney Price, Carla Jane Price and special niece Amilya Price; nephews, Robert A. Price, James E. Price and special nephew Jaiden Price; two grand-nieces, including Madison Camp, and grand-nephew, Munanny Price; and special friends, Frances Landis, Julie Smith, Sue Clay, Bernice Endicott and Delphine Price. GLORIA ANN HAMER of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at her home. She was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Kenova, W.Va., the daughter of the late Thomas and Georgia Body Hamer. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Reger Funeral Chapel in Huntington by Reverend Ford Price. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Ceredo, W.Va. She was a member of Ceredo Congregational Church of Ceredo. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John M. Hamer, and his wife, Helga. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Sallie Hamer Plymale and her nephews, Thomas M. Plymale and Robert H. Plymale and his wife Jennifer, John M. Hamer and his wife Paula. She is also survived by her great-nieces and nephews, Lauren Plymale and her fiancé Terry McFann, Allison Plymale, Kaitlin Hamer, James, Alex and Thomas Plymale and his fiancée Amber Webster, and great-grand-niece, Kathryn Grace. Gloria was a graduate of the Garfield Hospital in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Army Cadet Corps during WWII. She retired from International Nickel Company (Special Metals) after 21 years of service. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling. The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers Kelly Schuman and Jill Fuller, the workers from Hospice and her primary care physician Dr. Todd Gress. LORAINE EDWARDS, 82, of Huntington, W.Va., widow of James Miracle and Carl Edwards Sr., went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2013, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 9, 1930, in Prichard, W.Va., to the late James Major Ward and Florence Ward. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Ezra, Bazil and Tom Ward; and two sisters, Bertha Ward and Edna Craft. She is survived by two sisters, Eugie Walters of Lizton, Ind., and Doris Ekers of Huntington. Also surviving are nieces, Cherylene, Valanie, Gay, Susan, Lisa and Connie; and nephews, Billy, Keith, Jimmy, Mike and Steven, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Loraine also leaves behind an extended family at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation. ELIZABETH LOUISE HILL NOE went to join her late husband Fred Noe in Heaven on Friday, March 8, 2013, at her home. Louise was born August 8, 1917, in Fort Gay, W.Va., a daughter of the late William Thomas and Minnie "Holt" Hill. Louise was a member of Wilson Chapel Church, Fort Gay, since 1968. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Noe; two sisters, Ethel Lanham and Ruby Draudt; five brothers, Robert Hill, Herbert Hill, John Hill, Ralph Hill and Charlie (Todd) Hill. Survivors include two sons, James "Jim" (Andrena) Noe and Roy Douglas (Linda) Noe, all of Fort Gay, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Noe of Louisa, Ky., Jennifer Noe Hillman of Fort Gay, W.Va., and Jonathan Noe also of Fort Gay, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Andrew (Paige) Hillman stationed in Turkey; Kalee Hillman of Fort Gay, W.Va. CHARLES ROY DAMRON SR. of St Albans, W.Va., went to be with his Lord Friday, March 8, 2013, after a short illness with malignant Mesothelioma. He will be waiting on the banks of the Promised Land for his lovely wife of 66 years, Helen Damron, and their three precious children, Charles Damron Jr. "Snub" of St Albans, Sandra Higginbotham of Dallas, Texas, and David Damron of St Albans. Charles was born in Huntington on Oct. 21, 1928. His parents were the late William David and Georgia Martin Damron from Wayne County. Being the next to the last born in a family of 16 children, he is survived by two brothers, Youngy Bennett Damron "Y.B." of Kenova and Robert Earl Damron of Nashville, Tenn. He is also survived by son-in-law, Stephen M. Higginbotham of Dallas, Texas; daughters-in-law, Cheri Damron and Janie Damron of St Albans; sister-in-law, Bessie June "Bockie" McCoy; and brother-in-law, Robert E McCoy of Weston. He was blessed with nine lovely grandchildren, Tammy Stephens, Mark Higginbotham, Katie Underwood, Amie Gressett, Charles Damron III "C.R.," April Rogers, Brian Higginbotham, Matthew Higginbotham and Heather Damron; along with a beautiful family of 54 great-grandchildren, granddaughters/grandsons-in-law, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was fortunate to have a host of lifelong friends and business associates. Charles worshiped his Lord for 45 years and served his country during World War II. He gave to his community as an electrical contractor in the Tri-State area and was owner and president of Damron Electric in Spring Hill from 1954-1982. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Chemical Bank in South Charleston. He gave bountifully to his family, his church and his community. From 1982 until six weeks ago, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing in Marathon, Fla. Today, Charley was met inside the Pearly Gates by a choir of family members singing his favorite song "There's Shouting Time in Heaven." WILLIAM WESLEY HARMON, 64 of Prichard, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Audley Wiley and Brother Arbie Rice, Jr. Burial will follow at Queen's Ridge Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. He was born September 21, 1948, in Prichard, W.Va., a son of the late Jerry Harmon and Nellie Mae Craft Harmon. William was a computer technician for RESA II, was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and most importantly was a wonderful husband, father and papa. Also preceding him in death was a sister Alberta Marshall; a brother-in-law Wilburn Marshall; his father-in-law Owen Vance; and a special friend Lowell Beckley. Survivors include his loving wife Ruthie Mae Vance Harmon; two daughters, Lila Dawn Blailock and husband Sammy Blailock of Kosciusko, Miss., Candy Sue Harmon and husband Joshua Martin of Poca, W.Va.; four sisters, Viola Mae Welch of Prichard, W.Va., Mary Francis McSorley of Kenova, W.Va., Irene Freeman and Linda Kay Vance, both of Prichard, W.Va.; two brothers, Jerry Harmon, Jr., of Burlington, Ohio and James Harmon of Prichard, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Trin Wesley James Russell, Shelby Owen Blailock and Elsa Ruth Blankenship; and a host of nieces and nephews including two very special nephews, Matthew Harmon and Daniel Adkins. GLEN VERNON SPENCE, 92, of East Lynn, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2013. He was born December 28, 1920 at East Lynn, a son of the late George and Laura Spence. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Wayne Spence, Noah Spence, and James Ambrose Spence, and two sisters, Gypsy Gillispie and Goldie Waugh. A 1939 graduate of Wayne High School, Glen proudly fought in WWII with the US Army. He retired from Cadillac in Detroit, Mich., and was a member of the Little Lynn Church of God. He leaves behind one sister, Doris Steele of East Lynn; one brother, Kennis Spence of Asheville, Oh.; special nephew Craig Moore of Lavalette, W.Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Otis Bowens officiating. Burial will follow in the Sellards Cemetery. HUBERT LEE SMITH, 84, of Lavalette, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Monday, March 11, 2013, at his residence. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens. He was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Jesse and Myrtie Rowe Smith. Hubert was a retired landscaper for Lavalette Nursery and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was also a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee and Sunday school superintendant. Two brothers, Hobart and Homer Smith, also preceded him in death, along with two sisters-in-law, Elsie and Sula Smith. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Janice Duty Smith; two daughters, Carol Damron and husband Terry of Huntington, W.Va., and Mary Copley of Lavalette; three sons, Marvin Smith of Huntington, Rodger Smith and wife Tammy of Lavalette, and Harold Smith and wife Kathy of Huntington; a sister, Calla Smith of Huntington; four brothers, his twin Herbert Smith of Manassas, Va., Hurl Smith and wife Esta of Smithville, Ohio, Lowell Smith and wife Sallie, and Dores Smith, all of Lavalette; and eight grandchildren who adored him, Andrew Damron and fiancée Chelsae Holley, Daniel Damron, Natasha Adkins, Raelyn Smith, Lucas Smith, Rileigh Copley, Lainey Copley and Chase Copley. THURMAN MARCUM, 77, of Crum, W.V. passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical in Louisa, Ky. Thurman was born February 29, 1936 in Crum, W.V. a son of the late Harlan and Eda Parsley Marcum. He was a sawmill laborer. RICHARD JOHN LUNDQUIST, 88, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Louise (Donash) Lundquist. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha Elizabeth (Beck) Lundquist in 2012. He was a retired machinist from Burlington-Northern Railroad and Zenith, and later retired from the V.A. Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Huntington, W.Va., and was a World War II 3rd Division Army Veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient. He lived out his lifelong dream while in Arkansas to own and operate a small farm. Richard and his wife, Martha, both thoroughly enjoyed their love of ballroom dancing together. He is survived by one son, Richard Charles Lundquist (Peggy) of Scappoose, Ore.; two daughters, Mary Louise Emerson (David) of Byron Center, Mich., and Barbara Anne Keen (Stephen Joe) of Milton, W.Va..; two grandchildren, Douglas and Mitchell Streichhirsch; and one great-granddaughter, Lilyana Streichhirsch. DR. KENNETH EARL WILKES "KENNY" 68, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013, at his home. He was born on June 6, 1944, (D-Day) in Huntington, W.Va., the son of Earl M. Wilkes and the former Nevada Dickerson. He was raised in Huntington and graduated from Vinson High School, where he was Valedictorian and President of his senior class, Lieutenant Governor of the state Key Club, and earned varsity letters in track and as manager of the football team. He attended Duke University on academic scholarships, where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, graduated with distinction, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi national honorary societies, participated in student government, and earned varsity letters as manager of two intercollegiate sports teams. He earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from The Ohio State University. He worked as a research engineer-physicist at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory in White Oak, Md., Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio, Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Granville, Ohio, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tenn.. He retired in 2006 from ORNL as a Distinguished R&D Staff Member. He was an international expert on thermophysics and was a fellow of two international scientific organizations. After retirement, he was active in the Tennessee State Guard, attaining the rank of Major, and serving as Adjutant for the Third Regiment which serves East Tennessee. He was also Docent for the Farragut Folk Life Museum. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Wilkes. Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rose; son, Dr. David Wilkes and daughter-in-law, Dr. Vidya Rajagopalan of Granger, Ind.; daughter, Suzanne Wilkes-Portante and son-in-law, Gerald Portante of Littleton, Mass.; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Cecilia, and Isabella Portante of Littleton, Mass., and Aashna Wilkes of Granger, Ind.; mother, Nevada Kilgore of Huntington, W.Va.; brother, Ernest Wilkes and sister-in-law, Patricia of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He recently developed a passion for genealogy and through his research was accepted into the General Society of Mayflower Descendents and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution. He was a wonderful and patient husband, father and grandfather. He lived a life of grace and left the world a better place for being a part of it. With his kindness, humor, and ready smile, he touched so many people. We will miss him greatly but know that the joy he gave us will live forever in our hearts. GRACIE DILLON STULTZ, 87 of Radnor, WV and Cape Coral, FL went to be with her Lord, Thursday, March 14, 2013 in her Florida home surrounded by family. She was born December 5th,1925 in Kirk, WV, a daughter of Wilda May Dillon and the late William Riley Dillon Sr. Gracie was an employee of 21 Century Realty, Scott Paper Company and the City of Riverview in Michigan. She volunteered at the Wayne Senior Center after her retirement. Gracie was a member of the Riverview, MI Church of Christ Church. Her husband Willard K Stultz preceded her in death, along with two sisters Lola Taylor and Oma Jean Straub; two brothers Everett and William R. Dillon Jr. as well as grandson Dennis Fosgate and granddaughter Yvonne Day. BILLIE LEE SLONE II “Bubby,” 40, of Huntington, beloved son of Kay and Bill Slone passed away Saturday March 16, 2013 at Cleveland Clinic from complications due to heart surgery. Billie was born November 26, 1972, in Huntington, a son of Billie Lee Slone and V. Kay Slone. He graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School where he played football. In addition to his parents, Billie is survived by his wife and best friend, Amy Walker Slone, his sister who loved him very much, Tracey Michelle and brother-in-law Adam Pabrazinsky, of Kenova, two daughters; Olivia Walker Slone of New Jersey and Savannah Slone of Oklahoma. In addition, he was awaiting the birth of his son in May 2013. Billie is also survived by many friends. He was employed by Allevard in Prichard, WV. Billie loved sports especially football and spent a lot of his free time watching his favorite Minnesota Vikings or Oklahoma Sooners. He loved life and will be sadly missed by his family and close friends. DEBORAH LYNN BRADSHAW RAKES, 52, of Kenova, WV, beloved wife, mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on Sunday March 17, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was born December 13, 1960 in Huntington, WV a daughter of Robert Lee and Barbara Ruth Pack Bradshaw of Kenova. She was a 1979 graduate of C-K High School and a 1983 graduate of Marshall University. Deborah had been employed at Fed-Ex for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Gladys Rakes, maternal grandfather, Thomas Pack and paternal grandparents Harrison and Talitha Bradshaw. Deborah was a member of Christ Temple Church. Dianne was born on January 7, 1970 in Huntington, WV and was preceded in death by father Luther and mother Stella Wallace and her mother-in-law Rebecca Williams. She worked at the Army Corps of Engineers in Huntington where she had many friends. She was always open minded, spoke her mind, was unselfish in many ways, and was a happy and fun person to be with. Dianne led her life full of love and cared deeply for her family and friends. Dianne will be missed beyond imagination by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Shane D. Legg; two brothers, Edward Jenkins and Lawrence Jenkins; four sisters, Helen Clemons, Naomi Pauley, Zina Hamlin and Dorothy Berry. Copley Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. Biddie was born the seventh of twelve children on Feb. 23, 1928, in Delbarton, W.Va., to the late James and Fannie Starr Lawson. Biddie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill Copley, along with ten siblings, Bryant Lawson, Laffie Lawson, Pearl Lawson-Laprad Hoover, Mae Lawson Barger, Hie Lawson, Nellie Lawson Doyle, Archel Lawson, Conner Lawson, Rebecca Lawson Sheppard, and Arlene Lawson Marcum. Biddie was a homemaker and loved her children. She was a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church in Lavalette, W.Va. She loved to sing in the choir and always enjoyed the fellowship while participating in "Helping Hands." Survivors include five children, Jennings L. (Kimberly A. She liked to visit with people and was known for giving the best hugs around. Irene also enjoyed growing flowers and sewing. She will be missed. SANDRA SUE DICK, 64, of Lavalette, W.Va., died on March 27, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a short illness. Sue was born on Feb. 22, 1949, a daughter of Ethel Ramey Burks and the late Howard Jennings Burks. She worked at Owens Illinois and later retired from Walmart. Survivors include her husband and best friend of nearly 46 years, Golden; sons, Michael (Gretchen) Dick and David (Kelly) Dick; a brother, Howard (Janie) Burks of Florida; grandchildren, Jonathon, Anthony, Jalyn and Naomi Dick; and her beloved "puppies," Sam, Bowzer, Olivia, Electra and Ice Cube. They will look for her each day. She has "climbed the stairway to Heaven." When she is "knockin on Heaven's door," so many will greet her, including her father, Howard Jennings Burks; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delbert and Reta Mae Dick; brother, Gary Burks; and grandparents, Golden Ramey and Leona Napier Ramey Napier. DR. ALVIS BROWN, 81, of Bronston, Ky., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Louisa, Ky., native was born Dec. 30, 1931, a son of the late John and Sarah Varney Brown. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leona Cox Brown. Dr. Brown was a 1950 graduate of C-K High School and attended Marshall University and The Ohio State University, where he earned his Ph.D. His first teaching job was at Thomas Brown High School in Cattletsburg, Ky. He was an assistant football coach and head baseball coach at Marshall, and later served as a guidance counselor at Ironton High School. He also taught at Frostburg (Md.) State College, Westminster (Pa.) College and Somerset (Ky.) Community College, where he was a Professor and Dean. He attended Parkers Mill Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Elmer, Alfred, Clarence, Lawrence, Claude, Clyde, Clinton and Clifford Brown. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Dana Brown of Flatwoods, Ky., and Randy and Lisa Brown of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mike Williams of Somerset, Ky.; sister, Muriel Salyers of Ceredo, W.Va.; mother-in-law, Letha Cox of Ironton; sister-in-law, Thelma Ross-Ervin of Ironton; and 13 grandchildren, Sarah, Sammy, Shyler, Jacob, Davis, Allison, Alan, Kasey, Chad, Jessica, Justin, Josh and Alissa. SAMUEL ISAAC MCARTHUR, 80, of Lavalette, W.Va., formerly of Clinton, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Hospice after a brief stay at King's Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born Oct. 13, 1932, to Perry Erastus McArthur and Nellie Taylor in Clinton, N.C. He joined the Army at 17. He served during the Korean War, there he met a young man from West Virginia that showed him pictures of his family, including a picture of his sister, Virgie Mary Merritt, who would later become his wife of 59 years. They raised five children, who loved their daddy dearly. After retirement from the Army, he worked and retired from Novamont and Airstech Chemical in Kentucky. Preceding him in death, included his mother, Nellie Taylor; father, Perry Erastus McArthur; brother, William Everett McArthur (killed at Pearl Harbor); and sisters, Kathleen McArthur, Magdalene McArthur and Rochelle McArthur Estes. MILLIE MAE MATHIS, 81, of Wayne, W.Va., widow of Claude Mathis went to be with the Lord Friday, March 29, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born August 13, 1931, in Dunlow, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jonah and Eliza Jane Williamson. BURWELL "BURL" CLAYTON SPREACKER, 84, fulfilled his favorite song, "I'll Fly Away," by leaving his Earthly home in Proctorville, Ohio, and entering Heaven's glory on March 29, 2013. He was born April 14, 1928, to the late Arlen and Georgie Fortner Spreacker in Lavalette, W.Va. Also predeceasing him in 2001 was his beloved wife of 55 years and the mother of his children, Rosalie Wyant Spreacker; his sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Henry Perdue; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Jean Spreacker, and Charles and Lida Spreacker; brother-in-law, Archie Whitmore; and a granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Lyons. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Lynnette; two daughters, Becky Lyons and husband Herbert and Sally Lowe (Paul Morrison); a son, Rev. Dan Spreacker and his wife Sherrill, all of Huntington; one sister, Joyce Whitmore; and one brother-in-law, Sidney (Rosa) Poynter; grandchildren, Charlie (Terri) Lyons, Melanie Lyons (Wayne Lucas), Tim Ferguson, Andrea (Joe) Porter, and Craig Spreacker (Norma Harbolt); great-grandchildren, Austin Ferguson, Daniel and Caitlin Spreacker; stepchildren, Miriam (Duane) Maxey, Conner (Lola) Ray and Nathan Ray (Bonnie Davis); and nieces and nephews, John (Sandy) Perdue, Hope Russell, Gloria Jean Tomblin, Richard Lee Spreacker, Henrietta Spreacker, Charlene McCloud, Tina (Shane) Coffman and David (Jackie) Chapman. Also missing him are Sam, his dog; and his cats, Romeo, Calico and Bridget, who idolized him and whom he adored. Burl worked for S.S. Logan for many years and retired from Frito-Lay after 19 years of service. He deeply loved the Lord, serving him with his whole heart. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was pure and devoted. His mission in life was to call or visit those whom were sick or afflicted. He maintained a garden so the harvest could be shared. He loved to laugh and talk, never to meet a stranger and was a witness for Jesus in speech and actions. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Smith, Elvin Green, Ron Cole, Buddy Logan, George Surgeon and Don Spreacker. MARY FRANCIS HALL, 88, of Poplar Bluff, MO, formerly of Wayne County, West Virginia, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She was born March 28, 1925 at Wilsondale, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lacy B. Smith and Georgia Aldridge Smith. She leaves behind eight children, Lacy Hall, Donald Ray Hall, Maudaie May Blankenship, Bonnie Chatman, Gerald Edward Hall, Della May Perry, Marshall Lee Hall, and Charlene Pasquet; and a host of grandchildren and additional family and friends. Graveside services were conducted at 1 pm, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Williams Cemetery with Brother Henry Pasquet officiating, with friends calling from 11 am till 12:30 pm at the Mt. Sinai Church. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.

REV. GAINES E. “Buddy” SMITH went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was born on October 7, 1928, the son of the late Gaines A. and Catherine Childers Smith. He was a clinical associate for Prestera Transition Homes. He also served as former pastor of the Ceredo Christian Baptist Church and has served as an assistant pastor of the First Huntington Christian Baptist Church for several years. Gaines graduated from the WV School for the Blind in Romeny, W.Va. He was also a member of the Cabell-Wayne Association of the Blind. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby Joe, Eugene, Delbert and Jim Smith; and one sister, Thelma Holderby. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mattie Marie Smith; and three sons and their spouses, Alan (Kelley), Otis (Donna), Micheal (Patricia) Smith; one sister, Betty Erwin of Huntington; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Richard Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. GINA KAY TYSON KARPINSKI, age 52, devoted and loving wife and mother, ended her long battle on March 30, 2013, at the Hospice Center at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Marion Tyson of Huntington, W.Va.; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pearlie Marcum of Crum, W.Va., Mrs. Edith Tyson Helmick, John Tyson and step-grandfather F.V. Helmick, all of Huntington, W.Va. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Julian Karpinski and their son, Christopher Joseph of Lexington. Other survivors include her loving mother, Geneva Marcum Tyson of Huntington; a dear sister, Jennifer Lynn Tyson of Lexington; brothers-in-law, Christopher (Holly) Karpinski of Wheeling W.Va., and Anthony J. Karpinski of Moundsville, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Amilia Marie Karpinski of Wheeling W.Va.; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of valued friends. She was born April 8, 1960, and raised in Huntington, W.Va., and was a member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, Huntington W.Va. She graduated from Vinson High School in 1978. She graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University where she was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and was also a member of the The Pride of West Virginia, the WVU marching band. She also graduated from the West Virginia College of Law at WVU. She practiced law in W.Va. for many years, first in private practice and later as an Assistant Attorney General with the W.Va. Attorney General's Office. In recent years, she has been devoted to motherhood and family. Her love of arts and crafts were well-known, especially at Christmas time when her signature table-top Christmas trees were prized by all who had been lucky enough to obtain one. Her devotion to the community was very important to her through her work with various charitable efforts in particular with the homeless and young mothers. Gina will be missed by all who knew her and remember for her kind, loving and generous heart. Her family wishes to thank the Westmoreland United Methodist Church for their continued support (especially the children) through their prayers and cards. Thanks also to all who sent cards, prayers, meals and good wishes. They were received as blessings by the family. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Minister Ronnie Hupp. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. She was born October 16, 1927 in Wayne, WV, a daughter of Matt and Clara Fry Richardson. Estel was retired from General Motors Corporation and was a member of the Eastern Stars. a daughter, Patricia Fryer Miller also preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Violet Richardson Fryer and Nell Richardson Thompson, and four brothers, Howard, Earl, James and Goebel Richardson. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Redmond of Michigan, Terre Katterson of Florida; a brother, Jack Richardson of Ohio; six grandchildren, Richard Miller, James Redmond, David Redmond, Shannon May, Kim Fryer, Carl Katterson; six great-grandchildren, Crystal, Michael, Christopher, Jacquelin, Christina, Sabrina; and five great-great grandchildren, Jesse, Kendall, Allison, Alex and Dillon.
