BILLY LEE ARTHUR, 53, of Fort Gay, died Nov. 1, 2014 at River's Bend Health Care. He was born January 12, 1961 in Huntington, W.Va. a son of the late Billy Jack Arthur and Verla Mae Frye White. His brothers, Rodney and Reggie Arthur also preceded him in death, along with one sister, Sherry Wellman. He leaves behind one uncle, O’Dell Arthur of Huntington, W.Va.; his step-mother, Anna Lou Arthur of Louisa, Ky.; several nieces and nephews and special friends Ronnie and Jewell Merritt. Graveside services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Community Memorial Gardens. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is honored to serve the Arthur family.

THELMA LOUISE EDWARDS, 87, of Ceredo, passed away November 1, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born February 25, 1927 in Wayne County. She was the daughter of the late Luther Martin Pratt and Anna Marie (Bolt) Pratt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Billy Edwards, one son Richard Allen Edwards; daughter in-law Gloria Edwards; five sisters Helen Jobe, Wanda Maynard, Lorraine Foster, Margaret Booth, Laura Adkins and one brother Fred Pratt and grandsons Jeff Edwards and Ritchie Edwards. She leaves behind to mourn her loss her son Billy Edwards and her brothers Luther Pratt, Jr. and Sammy Pratt; daughter in-law Sherri Edwards, grandsons Jason Edwards (Danielle), Brett Edwards (Amber), Danielle Edwards, Nicole Edwards and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home & Cremation Services at 2:30 p.m., with Pastor Chris Day officiating; burial to follow at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Ceredo. HAZEL FOLLOWAY LUCAS, 90, of Lavalette, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Brother Willis Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the Mays Cemetery in Lavalette. She was born March 18, 1924 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late William and Cora Pruitt Followay. Hazel was retired from the Huntington Dress Factory and was a member of the Camp Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Her husband of 69 years, Charlie Lucas, daughters Tammy Jo Lucas Tooley and Janice Lucas Newman, son-in-law, Jim Newman, grandson Steve Lucas, brothers Johnny, Albert, Earl, Sammy, Cecil, and Billy Followay, Jr., and sisters Nellie Marsh, Ruth McQuain, Gladys Sullivan, Mable Followay and Carrie Followay, also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Charles T. "Tom" Lucas and wife Karen of Lavalette, and Gregory Allen Lucas of Lexington, Ky., a son-in-law, C. B. Tooley of Lavalette; brother-in-law Willard Lucas (Doris) of Proctorville, Ohio, sister-in-law Angela Lucas of Lavalette, nine grandchildren, Lisa Newman, Kathy Smith (Harold), Kristi Wilson, Deena Wesley (Mark), Charlie B. Tooley (Trista), Clayton Tooley (April), Ashleigh, Katie, and Max Lucas, ten great-grandchildren, Brandi, Cody, Raelyn, Noah, Lucas, Kori, Konner, Kyle, Braiden, and Kayleigh, and three great-great-grandchildren, Izzy, Rocky and Kylie. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel will be remembered for her quick wit and jolly laugh. She wanted to be a good person the way her mother raised her and looked forward to joining her loved ones in heaven. A special thanks goes to the Wayne Nursing Home and Rehab staff for their loving and excellent care over the past four years and to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their kindness and compassionate care during her final days. CHARLES EDWARD SMITH, 76, of East Lynn, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Garland Perry and Brother Jamie Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, East Lynn. Charles was born on May 25, 1938 in East Lynn, WV, to the late Rev. Earl Smith & Phoebe Miller Smith. He was a truck driver for Drako and a member of Beech Fork Chapel Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Smith and sister Wilma Kareff. Surviving is his daughters Terena Smith of Detroit, Michigan, Angela Tamasko (Craig) of California and Sheree Gourley (Carl) of Tennessee, two sons Timothy Smith of Detroit Michigan and Mark Smith of Huntington, WV, three sisters Florene Ratcliff of East Lynn, WV, Eunice Hatton and Edie Skeens Doss Jr.) all of Wayne, WV, and two brothers Cletis Smith Rita) of East Lynn, WV and Sherman Owen Smith of Barboursville, WV. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Friends called from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

GEORGE STEELE, 71, of Louisa, Ky., passed away November 2, 2014 at UK Medical Center following a brief illness. George was born January 18, 1943 in Huntington, the son of the late Ed and Dorothy Morrison Steele. He was a retired salesman for the Flav-O-Rich Dairy Co., a Kentucky Colonel, a former Assistant Fire Chief for the Ceredo Vol. Fire Department, a member of the Crescent F&AM #32 Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife Effie Napier Steele, two daughters Jana Hatten and husband Sean of Orange Park, Fla., and Michelle McCallister and husband Mark of Barboursville; a son Gary Steele and wife Debbie also of Barboursville; five grandchildren, a brother Donnie Steele of Hickory, N.C.; five step sons Gary Alan (Janet) Huff, Larry Michael (Cathy) Huff, William Torry and fiance' Nora James, Donovan (Chip) Huff, and Kevin (Carol) Huff; two step daughters Dreama (Gary) Gillette, and Karla Huff; ten step grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday Nov. 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Bevins, Rev. Jim Castle, and Rev. Greg Caudill officiating. WADE ADKINS JR., 45, of Logan, WV, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, WV. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne with Brother Roger Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at the Brooks Cemetery, East Lynn. He was born October 26, 1969, to the late Patricia Caroll Adkins. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his sister Roxie Dale Crum. Survivors include daughters Barbara Carol Adkins of Wayne, Hailey Adkins of Logan, Zoey Calp of Logan, WV, and Jacqulyn Newsome of Dunlow, WV, sons Wade Tyler Adkins of Wayne and Timothy Newsome of Logan, father Ezra Adkins of Kiahsville, sisters Teresa Adkins and Kathy Adkins both of Kiahsville, Patricia Adkins and husband Harold of Logan, WV, brothers Ezra Adkins and wife Sandy of Branchland, and Thomas Adkins and wife Renee of Kiahsville. DAVID LESLIE WILSON, 48, of Huntington passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington with Rev. Greg Creasy officiating. David was born June 30, 1966 in Bluefield, WV., son of the late Robert Leslie and Wanda Ball Wilson. He was an avid bowler. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Esther Ball. Survivors include three daughters Amanda Marie Wilson of Huntington and Crystal and Ashley and one sister and brother-in-law Tammy (Charlie) Watkeys of Huntington. GLEN EDWARD MARSHALL, 67, of Wayne, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born January 24, 1947, a son of the late George and Ada May Finley Marshall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ellen Marshall; one sister, Mandy Davis; and two brothers; Larry Marshall, and Delmas Marshall. Glen worked in construction as a laborer and attended Laurel Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his companion, Pinky Hotton of Wayne; two sons Michael (Shana) Marshall of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Bobby (Tammy) Marshall of Wayne; two daughters, Sherry (Jesse) Rowe of Wayne, and Jessica Marshall (Dennis Adkins) of Dunlow, W.Va.; six sisters, Janice Stacy, Ernestine Cooper, and Retha Johnson of Wayne, Darlene Luther of Huntington, Linda Robinson of Lavalette, and Lola Beckleheimer of Branchland, W.Va.; three brothers, Eldon Marshall, and Duke Marshall of South Point, Ohio, and Douglas Marshall of Wayne; eight grandchildren, Kristopher, David, Mikey, Brandon, Halee, Riley, Derek, and Samantha; and a host of friends and family too numerous to count. BERTHA MAE MARSHALL WARD, 84, of Kenova, wife of Ray Ward, passed away Wednesday November 5, 2014 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Greg Page. Burial will follow in Ward Cemetery, Wayne County. She was born August 21, 1930 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Bill and Hazel Newman Marshall. She was a homemaker and a member of Shoals Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a son Rusty Ward who passed away May 17, 2014. Additional survivors include a son and daughter in law Michael and Terri Ward; daughter Raenette Ward and Ted; Rusty's widow Janet Ward; eight grandchildren Taylor Ward, Bethany and Jason Hatfield, Shane Ward and Christina, Brandon Ward and Dana, Aaron and Michelle Ward, Nicole Ward and Jordan, Jeremy Moore and Jamie and Aaron and Teresa Moore and seven great-grandchildren Nick Ward, Jase Hatfield, Jordyn Moore, AJ Moore, Cole Moore, Hayley Ward and Peyton Ward. CECIL LYLE RAMSEY, age 86, of Huntington, passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson's Disease on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born August 27, 1928 in Oak Hill, W.Va., son of the late Cecil Lyle Ramsey, Sr. and the late Henrietta Shore Ramsey. Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Anspach Ramsey. They were married in Washington, D.C. on December 15, 1951. Also surviving are his two daughters and their husbands, Jean and Alan Simmons of Huntington, and Mary and Phil Krinkie of Shoreview, Minn.; grandchildren Mark (and wife Rebekah) Simmons of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth Simmons of Philadelphia, Pa., and Elizabeth Krinkie of Shoreview, Minn.; great-grandchildren Eleanor (Elly) and James Simmons of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, David Allen Ramsey of Barboursville; and special caregiver and friend, Michael Staszewski of Huntington. Lyle graduated from Huntington High School in 1946 as valedictorian of his class. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honorary and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He proudly served in the U. S. Army, entering service at Aberdeen (MD) Proving Ground in September 1951. Later he served at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., and at Ft. Bliss, TX. As a First Lieutenant, he was involved in the development of the U.S. guided missile program and was a company commander at Ft. Bliss. Lyle was awarded the National Defense Service Medal prior to his separation from service in December 1954. He and Barbara returned to Huntington, where he was employed at Huntington Alloys (INCO) for 33 years where he held numerous positions in metallurgy, operations, and process and quality control. After his retirement from INCO, he had several jobs, first with Region II Planning Commission, then with the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Flexible Manufacturing, prior to co-founding High Performance Heat Treating, where he served as the first President before retiring again. Lyle was an avid runner and fervent supporter of the Huntington YMCA. He was a Rotarian and a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, where he and Barbara first met. He served in various leadership positions in the church and Sunday School classes. He was a kind, loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests consideration of contributions to the Jeff Ohl Scholarship Fund at Johnson Memorial or to Johnson Memorial Church. Visitation will be Friday night, November 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Funeral Home and funeral services will be conducted by Jack Lipphardt, Senior Pastor, at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 8 at Johnson Memorial Church. ROGER CARLSON STEWART, 26, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in Huntington. Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the May-Turner Cemetery, Wayne County. Burial will follow. He was born August 29, 1988 in Placerville, California, a son of Arthur and Laura Turner Stewart of Huntington. He was a former construction employee. He was a member of JROTC while attending Huntington High School. He was proceeded in death by a brother, David Stewart. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife Katie Stewart and son, Adam Stewart. Also three brothers; John "JT" Stewart, Matthew Stewart and James Stewart. LARRY D. PARKER, 60, Abilene, Texas, formerly of Kenova, died November 6, 2014, at his home. He was a machinist/welder for 42 years in Texas and was gifted with his mechanical and carpentry skills. He leaves behind his loving Mother, Clara P. Massie of Kenova and two sisters, Donna Massie of Wayne and Sharon Massie Johnson (Lawrence) of Huntington. There will be a private military service for the family at a later date.

MARIE BETH MURPHY, 63, of Shoals, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2014 while surrounded by family and friends in her loving home. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Evelyn Perdue. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years Michael W. Murphy. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children Heather (Anthony) Wheeler, Reta (Marc) Collins and Wade (Kathryn) Murphy all of Huntington, WV. She was known by her grandkids as their Awesome Maw, Reid and Sulley Collins, Oakley and Vance Wheeler. Surviving siblings include Harold (Janice) Perdue, Sharon Houchin (Richard Stuart), Phillip (Brenda) Perdue and many special nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Surviving sister in law and brother in laws also include Mary Ann (Larry) Rowe and Leslie Murphy and Butch Gibson. Beth was an active member and faithful Christian of FIMBC where she loved working on the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry and Blessing in a Backpack which was always her mission to help children in need. She enjoyed volunteering at Buffalo Valley Church Camp for the past twenty years. She worked for Wayne County Board of Education for twenty years. Some of her favorite things where Sunday dinners with family, riding her tractor, working in her wood shop, riding dirt bikes and spending time with her grandkids. She was the hardest worker we ever knew. A special thank you to her lifelong friend Daisy Pennington who dedicated her time each day reading daily devotion to her. Many thanks to her special nurse Jennifer Brown at ECCC who was with her every step of the way and a heartfelt thanks to our Hospice nurse’s, staff and aides for the excellent care, devotion and compassion you have shown during this journey. Visitation was Monday, November 10, 2014 from noon until 2 pm at the Reger Funeral Home. Services were conducted at 2:00 pm Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. WILLIAM A. ADKINS, 73, of Chuluota, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, following a brief illness. He is survived by his first wife of 27 years, Mrs. Mary Sue Sayre Street of Knoxville, Tennessee and his current wife of 24 years Andrea (Harrod), his three sons: Chris, Will (Lavi) and Mark (Janet), his grandchildren Tyler, Shayna, Nadia and Ashley, his brothers Ron (wife Cindy) and Gary (wife Marsha). He is preceded in death by his parents William Herald and Nellie Marie Adkins. Bill loved animals including his most recent companion, Pooch, a miniature Dachshund, and Foster, the neighbor’s cat who preferred to live with Bill. Bill graduated from C-K High School (‘58) in Kenova, West Virginia, and Marshall University with undergraduate degrees in Economics, English and Political Science. He was employed by Sun Oil Company for 19 years, serving last as district manager. He was an entrepreneur and co-inventor of a computer vision speed detection system. For the past 24 years, he has been an OEM representative for Gardner Manufacturing. Bill enjoyed numerous hobbies including travel, reading, gun collecting, target shooting, Formula 1 racing, watching college football and fishing on the pier with his sons. He was consulted by family and friends on a variety of topics from politics to physics, world history and Reds baseball. Visitation for family and friends was held at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home (1135 Route. 60, Ceredo, WV) on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 12th starting at 10 a.m. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. to go to Crescent Hill Cemetery in Ceredo for the graveside prayer service at 11a.m. Bill supported animal charities and animal rescue organizations. PRISCILLA "CHRIS" TYLER, 66, of Lavalette, W.Va., wife Gene Everett Tyler, passed away Friday November 7, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at White Chapel Mausoleum at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, by Rev. Ray Williamson. Entombment will follow in Good Shepherd Masoleum. She was born March 12, 1948 in Mississippi a daughter of the late Charles and Reba McGuire Thomas. She was a fine jewelry saleswoman. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a son Duane Hannah and two sisters. Additional survivors include two grandchildren Christian Hannah and Celeste Hannah; sister Kerry Mann; daughter-in-law Mary Campbell and many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. FRANK E. FIORE II, 62, of Huntington, passed away on Saturday November 8, 2014, after a brief illness. He is survived by his three children Frank Fiore III of West Salem, Ohio, Amanda Hoffsted, of Lavalette, W.Va., and John Fiore of Lavalette, W.Va. As well as four grandchildren; Christopher Hoffsted, Frank Fiore IV, Morgan Fiore, Mya Fiore and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends in Cleveland, Ohio, and Huntington. A memorial service will be held at the Kellogg Church of God, 4430 Piedmont Rd., Huntington, on Saturday, November, 22nd starting at 6 p.m.

R. DAVID WILLIAMSON "Dave" passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Ohio. Dave was born March 7, 1958 to the late Dan and Thelma Carroll Williamson. He was a retired Steel Mill Worker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Williamson and a grandson, Alex Mitchell Williamson. Survivors include, one daughter, Susan Williamson, one son, Michael Williamson both of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Danny (Connie) Williamson of Webb, W.V.; six sisters, Debra Thompson of Fort Gay, W.V.; Athalene (Vernon) Robertson of Fort Gay, W.V.; Phyllis (Elmer) Webb of Louisa, KY.; Angelia (Ira) Ratcliff of Louisville, Ky.; Rhonda Williamson of Webb, W.V.; Sharon (Jerry) Ratcliff of Webb, W.V.; and a host of family and friends to numerous to count. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa, Ky. with Rev. Kimble Copley officiating. ROBERT LEE THOMPSON, 55, of Fort Gay, W.V. passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. He was born July 28, 1959 in Louisa, Ky. a son of the late Bobbie Ray and Rena Thompson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Ivie Thompson. Survivors include, Best friend, Darren Thompson of Fort Gay, W.V.; Brother, Stanley Thompson of Kansas; Special Friend, Florene Vanhoose of Fort Gay, W.V.; three nephews, Matthew Thompson, Christopher Thompson and Thomas Thompson; several aunts, uncles. Graveside services were conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Vanhoose Cemetery, Webb Branch Rd. Fort Gay, W.V. with Rev. Mack Ray Cyrus officiating. Visitation was 6:00 til 9:00 pm Monday at Young Funeral Home.

MILTON "Corky" SAMUEL HUFFMAN JR., of Huntington, WV, passed away on November 8, 2014. He was born on May 28, 1928 in Huntington, WV, a son of Milton Samuel Huffman Sr. and Louise McCoy Huffman. He was preceded in death his wife Phyllis Maxine Galyean Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a line foreman for C & O Telephone. Left behind to mourn his loss are his children Milton S. Huffman III of Maneto, NC, David A. Huffman Donna) of Flatwoods, KY and Daniel S. Huffman of Columbus, Ohio and his 3 grandchildren, Amber Dawn Whitt (Shane), Aaron David Huffman and Allison Danae Cook (Adam). Also surviving are his great- grandchildren Rylee Sue Whitt, Maisyn Lila Whitt and Maxton Shane Whitt. ELDER SAMMIE MOORE, 72, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born July 1, 1942 in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a son of the late Bill and Lousia Wiley Moore. His son Sammie Dwaine Moore also preceded him in death. He was a member of the Bride of Christ of Old Regular Baptist Church and a Vietnam War veteran. Sammie loved gardening, wood working, spending time with family and friends, and helping others. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Essie Norman Moore; one daughter, Tena Moore of North Carolina; one son, Daniel Curtis (Dana) Moore of Michigan; one sister, Annetta Sue (Arthur) Plumley of Ranger, W.Va.; one uncle, Orville Wiley of Florida, who was like a brother; and a host of family and friends. The family would like to thank special neighbors Charlie and Estel, the staff of the Hospice House, and family and friends for their support and love. CHARLES EVERETTE NAPIER JR., 61, went to be with his Lord on November 9, 2014. "Chuck" was born on May 11, 1953 to Dorothy Hammond Napier and the late Charles E. Napier of Kenova. He was a 1971 graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School and received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marshall University. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a small business owner. Chuck is survived by Beth Graves Napier, his wife of 28 years; their children, Amanda Lewis Mader, Robert Nicholas Napier and Charles Lee Napier; as well as his mother Dorothy Napier, a brother James R. Napier, a sister Sheila Napier Lester and nephew Jonathan Lester. He will also be greatly missed by grandson, Michael Mader and son-in-law Joseph Mader; as well as Keith and Judy Graves and Gordon and Shirley Graves and their families. WILLIAM "BILL" SHEARD HAYTON, 85, of Prichard, WV. passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Bill was born April 7, 1929 in Prichard a son of the late Ezra and Victoria Bowen Hayton. He was a veteran and retired Radio Equipment Foreman with the U.S. Air Force having served during Korea and Vietnam. Bill was a member of the American Legion, Grandview, MO., Masonic Lodge #618, Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine in Kansas City, MO., and a member of the American Legion Post #93 of Kenova whose Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. He was also a member of El Hasa Temple in Ashland, Ky.. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Bill is survived by five sisters Sadie Mullett, Ida Belle Wetherall, Beulah Oney, Joann Smith and Bonnie Ekers; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by a special nephew Bill Jr. McAlister and a special great- niece Beth Anne Workman. DENNIS JAMES PERRY, 55, of Prichard, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. Dennis was born September 22, 1959 in Middletown, Ohio, a son of Martha Blankenship Perry and the late Bud Perry of Prichard. JAMES FRANKLIN "RED" BUNDY, 77, of Genoa, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was born August 16, 1937 in Huntington. Red was a member of the Coon Club, retired from Huntington Plating, and most importantly a Christian. His mother Evelyn Esque Bowden preceded him in death, along with one brother, Ronald Bundy. He leaves behind his wife, Myrtle Bundy; two sons, Dennis James Bundy and Anthony "Tony" Bundy, both of Huntington; three step-children, Elmer Lee (Gladys) Marcum Jr., Shawn Allen (April) Marcum, and Tiffany Ann (Jeremiah) Napier; grandchildren, Andrew James Bundy, Dennis Dwayne Bundy, Ashley Nicole Bundy, Tony Jameson Bundy, Amanda June Thompson, Jon-Eric Anthony Bundy; Alivia Marcum, Elmer Lee Marcum III, Braylen Marcum, Jasmine Blankenship, Nicholas Blankenship, along with Easton Marcum who is expected any day; and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. JAMES THOMAS "JIMMY" SMITH, 96, of Kenova, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 14, 2014 at his son's residence. Jimmy was born July 27, 1918 in Huntington a son of the late Tom and Tennie Riggs Smith. He was a decorated WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Jimmy was a member of the 20th Street Baptist Church in Kenova, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 35 years and was a retired salesman for the Huntington Candy Company. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #93 whose Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Vangie was born on August 16, 1925, to Walter and Lizzie Thompson Porter. Vangie enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, sewing, and playing with her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Old Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and attended Wilson Chapel Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Ethe Adkins and Ruth Rice; and brothers, Thurman Porter, Nebert Porter, and Franklin Porter. SUE ELLEN CYRUS, 56, of Wayne, died Nov. 15, 2014 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. Born in Huntington on January 12, 1958, she graduated from Buffalo High in 1976. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Leroy Insco and Maxine Maggard Insco. Mourning her passing are her daughter, Jessica Holsinger (Kevin Holsinger), and grandchildren Evan and Olivia of Chesapeake, Ohio; her brother, Stephen Insco of Columbus; family friend, Lynn Jackson of Westerville; her aunt, Delores Wilburn of Grayson, and a host of lifelong friends. Sue Ellen was original, creative, and famous for her sharp wit and humor. She loved nature, camping on the Williams River, 70’s rock, and fashion. ROBERT ADAMS, age 76, of Kenova, died of natural causes at the Heritage Center, Huntington, WV, 17 November, 2014. Robert was born in Chattaroy, WV 13 March, 1938 to the late Joseph and Peggy Large Adams. He was a Korean War Veteran and served 6 years with the U.S. Air force at various bases both in the United States and overseas. He received an Honorable Discharge on the completion of his military service. Upon leaving the air force, Robert entered employment with the Ford Motor Company, Detroit Michigan. He returned to Kenova in 1974 to care for his ailing mother, and did so until her death in 1984. Robert had many friends and was known for his kind, caring and generous personality. Robert is survived by his two sisters, Joyce Adams Smith, of Southington, Connecticut, Carolyn Adams Cornwell of Dunnellon Florida, his nieces, Rita A. DR. DANIEL P. "DOC" BABB, longtime Marshall University chemistry professor, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a brief illness. Dr. Babb was born August 1, 1939 in Red Wing, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents Kay and Paul Babb as well as a brother Bill Babb. He is survived by his brother Doug Babb of Fort Smith, Ark.; nieces Nikki Tisue of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Rebekah DeSonnaville-Sammons of Jenks, Okla.; a nephew Paul Babb of Jenks, Okla.; and a special great nephew Colin Babb of Jenks, Okla. Dr. Babb studied chemistry at Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn., earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. He obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Idaho in 1968 under the direction of Jean’ne Shreeve studying the synthesis of novel fluorine compounds. He then studied nitrogen-sulfur-fluorine compounds with Herbert Roesky at the Anorganish Chemisches Institut at the University of Gottingen, Germany. He joined the Marshall faculty in 1972. His research interests included investigations into the chemistry of (CF3)2C=NLi and similar molecules. He also was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Professional Fraternity. Dr. Babb had recently retired after 42 years of teaching, research and service at Marshall University in Huntington. At the time of his retirement, it was estimated he had taught and mentored more than 15,000 students. Even after his retirement, he maintained professor emeritus status and continued to be a fixture on the MU campus. He also established the Paul and Catherine Babb Scholarship awarded to a student majoring in Chemistry. Throughout his tenure at Marshall his involvement with the university extended beyond the classroom. He was appointed associate dean of the College of Science in 1986 and chair of the department in 1990, serving for 14 years. He also was instrumental in developing the original curriculum for the university’s Society of Yeager Scholars as well as the development of the MU Faculty Senate. He served on the Faculty Senate as well as the senate’s Athletic and Student Conduct & Welfare committees. He was a recipient of the 2005-2006 Marshall University Distinguished Service Award. He also was a Thundering Herd football fan and often could be seen on the sidelines. Dr. Babb led the effort to re-charter and re-colonize Beta Delta chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity on the MU campus in 1979. He became an initiated member in 1980 (roster number 549) and served as its faculty advisor/Grand Chapter advisor for 31 years. Under his guidance, the fraternity earned many university and national awards and counts hundreds of very successful MU graduates among its ranks. Awards included the 1986 Delta Beta Xi Award given to ten Alpha Sig alumni nationally for outstanding service; Most Improved Chapter 1986; and the Grand Senior President’s Award (the fraternity’s highest honor for the best chapter in the nation) in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994 and 1996. He was bestowed the honorary title of "Mr. Beta Delta" and was named Grand Chapter Advisor emeritus by the fraternity’s national Grand Council. In 2011, he was named the Evin C. Varner, Jr. Distinguished Service Award given to one former Delta Beta Xi Award winner each year in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding service. REVA LOUISE RICE, 55, of Huntington, WV, went home to our Lord Wednesday November 19, 2014 after a long illness. Reva was a member of Norway Avenue Church of Christ. She attended Huntington East High School and Marshall University and managed several area restaurants. Reva is survived by her mother Billie Williams-Rice; father, Paul Rice; Uncle Robert Williams; sisters, Tina Swindler(Tom), Paula Jones (Robert), Becky Chandler (Marshall); niece, Aubrey Chandler; nephews Jason Rice, Shane Morrison, Matt Chandler, Zach Myers, Robert Jones, whom she all loved as her own; Aunt Dorothy Stambaugh; and honorary family Matt Wellman and Sandy Redmond. LINDA THOMPSON GOODMAN, 72, Bradenton, Fla., died November 19, 2014. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, and raised in Wayne County, West Virginia, she moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1963 when her husband of 48 ½ years, James A. Goodman, and accepted a job with Tropicana. After 36 years as a classroom teacher in Manatee County, Linda retired in 2000. A Teacher-of-the-Year nominee, Linda taught at Walker Jr. High School, Bradenton Middle School, and Braden River Middle School throughout her career. She attended Bayshore Baptist Church, in Bradenton, Fla., since July 1964 and was a Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. During her years at Bayshore, she also served as director of the women's group and youth director at various times. Linda graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in Ceredo, and Marshall University in Huntington, where she earned a degree in Secondary English Education. She is survived by her daughter, Cyndee Goodman Cheri, of Myakka City, Fla.; son, Todd Marshall Goodman (Katie) of Sarasota, Fla.; stepson James Arnold Goodman Jr. (Betty) of Melbourne, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Nicolas, Madison, Claire, and Jack. CARLOS RAYMOND BALLARD, JR., 88, of Huntington, died at his residence, November 24, 2014. He was born March 22, 1926 in St. Albans, W.Va., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carlos R. Ballard, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Merle Ballard and a grandson, Adam P. Ballard. Survivors include a son, David A. Ballard and his wife, Paula; a grandson, Eric B. Ballard and his wife, Christy. He was co-owner of Ballard’s Farm Sausage, Inc. and was responsible for the advertising program that included the 20 state regionally famous "Ballard Jingle." He was a 1950 Marshall graduate and strong supporter of the university. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. CARROLL VIVIAN SADLER McCLOUD, 69, of Lavalette, WV, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was a billing clerk for Columbia Gas and also worked at McCloud Insurance Agency, Wise Jewelers and Northwestern University. In addition to her parents, Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Daniel McCloud and one brother, Dencil Sadler. Carroll was an incredibly devoted mother and grandmother who kept her faith in God in spite of numerous physical ailments. She was gifted in painting, flower arranging and jewelry making. Carroll was instrumental in her son’s educations. JOHNSEY G. COLLINS, JR., 89, of Kenova, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. Johnsey was born November 24, 1925 in Allen, Ky., a son of the late Johnsey G. and Christina Hall Collins. He retired from Sears after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Oak Street Freewill Baptist Church in Flatwoods, Ky. Johnsey was a US Army veteran stationed in Cheltenham, England. He was a life member of American Legion Post #93 Kenova whose Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside rites. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine and one-half years, Phyllis Ann Jordan Collins. He is survived by his beloved children, two daughters, Chiquita F. Followay of Westmoreland, W.Va. and Olivia Sue Damron of Kenova; one son, Johnsey G. FRANK PRINCE, 77, of Huntington W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother Bethane Prince and his father Jesse Prince, brothers Wilson Prince, Fred Prince, Carl Prince, Jesse Prince (infant) all of Crum, W.Va., brother Charles Prince of Whitesville, W.Va. and sister Myrtle Prince of Thornsville, Ohio; a father-in-law Calvin Marcum and a mother-in-law Gertrude Marcum of Prichard, W.Va. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Louise (Marcum) Prince, two sons Frank A. Prince (Nelie), of Huntington, and Calvin E. Prince (Gerri) of Kenova and four special grandchildren Justin Prince of Orlando, FL., Jonathan Prince of Ceredo, Brittney Prince of Kenova, and Jessie Prince of Ceredo and brothers J.D. Prince (Myrtie) of Prichard W.Va., Earl Prince (Karen) and Mac Prince (Cosby) both of Crum, W.Va., and one sister Faye Prince (Owen Haney) of Dunlow, W.Va.; two important brother-in-laws Sammie Marcum of Kenova and Amos Prince of Ceredo, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Frank was a member of the Kenova Church of Christ, as well as a member of the Kenova Masonic Lodge 110 A.F. & A.M., where he served as a Past Master and Worthy Patron of Kenova Chapter 111 O.E.S. He retired from the International Nickel Company in Burnaugh, Ky. During his 77 years of life, Frank was a shining example of hard work and love. His sacrifices for his family began at an early age as a brother, dropping out of school before completing graduation to work with his father cutting timber to help ensure his siblings had the resources needed to survive and finish their own schooling. Frank would later earn his GED. As a husband for more than a half century, he was loyal and caring to his wife. As a father, he worked long hours at the Hamer Lumber Company in Kenova to support his children, as a grandfather he was a primary example of affection. He would often entertain his grandchildren with jokes and stories of his life that always captivated and inspired them. He was an honest and giving man who always put the lives of others before his own. During his three-year battle with cancer Frank fought valiantly, where he never once allowed those who loved him to see his pain. He took treatments and medication without complaint. Marge also was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence R. "Larry" Smith and her brother Roy Eugene Keyser. She is survived by her only child Linda Ann Smith Wilkinson of Barboursville, W.Va., and her son-in-law Thomas F. Wilkinson whom she loved like a son; grandchildren Molly Ann Wilkinson Johnson and husband David of Huntsville, Ala., and Gabe Elliot Joseph of Portland, Ore.; great-grandchildren Thomas Henry Johnson, Leah Marie Johnson and Max Abram Joseph; nieces Sandra Keyser Moreland of Kannapolis, N.C., and Terry Keyser Downs of Willingboro, N.J. Marge was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, "Mimi" and friend. She also enjoyed a 25-year career working in banks and credit unions. PAUL MARION SPAULDING, 76, of Kermit, West Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at his home. He was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on December 21, 1937 to the late Dewey and Grace Aldridge Spaulding. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Spaulding and one brother, Donald Spaulding. Paul is survived by his wife, Beradine Gillman Spaulding, two son, Paul David (Connie) Spaulding of Warfield, Kentucky and Dwayne Herbert Spaulding of Kermit, West Virginia, five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by one brother, James Happy Spaudling of Kermit, West Virginia and two sisters, Lois Jean Knotts of Columbus, Ohio and Ella Flo Adkins of Inez, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at the Golden Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Stonecoal, West Virginia on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 1:00pm with Billy Bear Messer officiating. Burial will follow at the Damron Cemetery in Kermit, West Virginia. Friends called at the church on Monday, December 1, 2014 starting at 5:00 pm and all day Tuesday. WANDA WALTERS, age 86, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. She retired from Big Bear Bakery. Wanda was preceded in death by husband, Donald Walters; son, James Walters; son-in-law, Doug Quick; granddaughter, Anita Thornberry; brothers, Jack, Glen and Odes Stephens; sisters, Kathleen Batten and Opal Pauley. GERALDINE "JERRY" TOPPING LAMBERT ELLIS, 84, of Lewisburg, departed this life Sun., Nov. 30, 2014, at Greenbrier Manor in Lewisburg. Born Jan. 27, 1930, in Harts, she was a daughter of the late Kyle and Anna Topping. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Charles W. Lambert; second husband, William O. Ellis; four brothers, John, Tom, Harold and Jim, and four sisters, Mary, Lucille, Maggie and Edith. Jerry was a past Grand Worthy Matron of the Logan Chapter the Eastern Star. She loved quilting, embroidery, playing board games, cooking and visiting with family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Anna L. Scott and her husband, Robert K. Scott II, MD of Lewisburg; two brothers, Shelton Topping of Harts and Herb Topping of Wayne; two granddaughters, Sheila and her husband, Bruce Jordan of Lewisburg and Margaret Kanellis of Akron, Ohio; and three greatgrandchildren, Anna Scott-Ristow of Huntington, Reagan Jordan of Lewisburg and Robert Kanellis of Akron. Services were held at 1 p.m. Sat., Dec. 6, at Freeman Funeral Home with Shelton Topping and Gary Topping officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Pecks Mill. Visitation was from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
