ROBERT LESTER, 82, of Fort Gay, WV passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at his home. Mr. Lester was born January 19, 1934 in Garten, WV. to the late John C and Opal (Newcomb) Lester. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela Doxtator and Teresa Kay Lester, and one step sister, Jewell Williamson. He is survived by his wife: Kay Frances (Dean) Lester and two daughters: Donna Fannin of Louisa, KY and Kim Northrup and husband Wayne of Fort Gay, WV, and five grandchildren and one great grandson. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was also a Plant Manager for several envelope companies. The funeral services was held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 6 at Wilson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Dean Cemetery on Tabors Creek in Fort Gay, WV. Friends called the family on Tuesday, September 6 from 11am until the time of service. Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, Louisa, KY.

MALEN JOHNSON, 64, of Fort Gay, WV went to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2016 following a brief illness. Malen was born April 16, 1952 at Nolan, WV the son of the late Lewis and Sylvia Stafford Johnson. He was a retired Electronic Technician and a member of the Church of God in Christ Jesus. Survivors include his loving wife Linda Adkins Johnson; a son Malen Johnson Jr.; two grandchildren Elizabeth Nicole Johnson and Camron Taylor Johnson; a sister Hope Adams; three brothers Joseph Johnson, Ishmael Johnson, and Homer Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 7th at 1:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Church of God in Christ Jesus Cemetery at Fort Gay, WV. Friends called the family on Tuesday Sept. 6th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home. Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

ORA MADELINE SMITH, 77, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 3, 2016. She was born February 2, 1939 at Dunlow, W.Va., a daughter of the late George and Lou Jervis. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Ray Jervis and Jay Jervis, and one nephew, Randy Jervis. She leaves behind one daughter, Cleo Barnes of Birmingham , Ala.; three sons, William Smith, Tommy Smith of Wayne, Donald Smith, also of Wayne; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Lenora Maynard of Jackson, Oh.; three brothers, Jack (Edith) Jervis of Lavalette, W.Va., William Jervis of Dunlow, and Bobby (Seay) Jervis of Wayne; one sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Jervis of Wayne; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery. Friends called after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

BELINDA DAWN BALL, 57, of Rittman, OH died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at Akron General Medical Center following a brief illness. Belinda was born Feb. 26, 1959 in Cleveland to the late Blaine and Anna Marie Marcum and graduated from North Ridgeville High School and later from Marshall University. She married Ronald Ball on June 22, 2002 and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2015. She had made her home in Rittman for the past 20 years previously residing in Wayne County, WV and enjoyed flower gardening, feeding the hummingbirds, watching her Soap Operas and traveling. She dearly loved her grandson and she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Shawn Tooley of Rittman, her grandson, Gavin Tooley; a sister, Wanda (Donald) McMillen of Columbia Station, OH and her best friend, Debby Miller of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sisters, Karen Marcum. Services were Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Glenn Griffith officiating. DALE PAYNE, 61, of Dingess, W.Va., husband of Nancy Payne, died Sept. 3, 2016 at his residence. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Little Walnut United Baptist Church; burial at Elder Lee Payne Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. www.honakerfuneralhome.org

EARNEST DAVID DILLEY, 54, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville, Ky. He was born October 3, 1961 at Logan, W.Va., a son of the late Harold and Avenell Williamson Dilley. David proudly served as a U.S. Army Ranger and worked with Laborer’s Local Union #543, Huntington. He leaves behind two daughters, Zion Lee Dilley (Nicholas Ashe), Emma Grace Dilley all of Huntington; one son David Arthur of Wayne, W.Va.; one brother, William (Amy) Dilley of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Garnett Dunfee of Huntington; two nieces, Rebecca Queen of Huntington, Ashton Scott-Kelley of Louisville; and nephews Joshua Scott of Louisville; great-nephew Braiden Queen; and best friends Tony Dale Adkins and Lyda Brandon; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday September 8, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greasy Ridge Cemetery, Dunlow. MARY MEADE, 99, of Kermit, West Virginia passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. She was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on January 20, 1917 to the late Sherman and Ninnie Williamson Marcum. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in Death by her husband, Roger Meade, three children, Walter Meade, Paul Meade and Frances Meade and six siblings, Mae Spaulding, Hazel Ward, Rebecca Newman, Lonzo Marcum, Alex Marcum and Roscoe Marcum. Mary is survived by three children, Daniel (Penny) Meade, Cecil (Donna) Meade and Jean (Bobby) Perry all of Jennies Creek, West Virginia along with 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Walnut Grove Church of Christ in Jennies Creek, West Virginia on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Bruce Justice officiating. Burial will follow at the Meade Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Warfield Chapel of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield, Kentucky. BILL RAY CRABTREE, 85 of Louisa, Ky., passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at home. He was born on February 7, 1931 in Fort Gay, to the late James and Cella Heck-Crabtree. Bill served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked in Law Enforcement for both the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the Fort Gay Police Department. Mr. Crabtree also was self-employed for a number of years owning businesses locally. Bill was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fort Gay for over 50 years. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by two brothers Lake and JD Crabtreee as well as one sister June Dean. Left behind to cherish is memory is a loving family including his wife of 61 years Phyllis "Poochie" Ailiff-Crabtree of Lousia; one daughter Sandy and Joe Hammond of Louisa; one grandson Andy and Amanda and Nolan and Conner; one brother Dick Crabtree and one sister Nell Dalbear both of Fort Gay as well as many friends all of whom will miss him dearly. Funeral Services will be held at the Tabors Creek Baptist Church in Fort Gay on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Denny Brown officiating. CLARK LEE FINLEY "JACKIE", 73, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away on Monday, September 05, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the House of Prayer Church, Dunlow, W.Va., with Pastor Jason Salmons and Jeff Jezewski officiating. Burial will follow at the Globel Browning Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. He was born on June 5, 1943, in Logan, W.Va., to the late Noah Finley and Pricie Coleman. Jackie previously worked for ACF Industries. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie Stafford and Opal Hill and brothers, Bobby and George Finley. Survivors include his loving companion of 26 years, Brenda Russell, daughters, Mary Anna Finley, Dottie Williams (Ralph) all of Genoa, W.Va., and Lisa Grubb of Dingess, W.Va., sons, Charles Lee Finley of Genoa, W.Va., and Allen Maynard of Dunlow, W.Va. Jackie is also survived by three sisters, Dicie Lemon of Farmington, Va., Doris Long (Leo) of Grove City, Ohio, and Glenna Sue Smith of Ft. Gay, two brothers, Noah Nelson Finley (Bonnie) of Dunlow, W.Va., and Roger Finley (Faye) of Fort Gay, eight grandchildren, Vanity Gastin (Chuck), Candice Plymale (Brett), Joshua, Bradley, and Ryan Williams, Tesla Adams, Jordan Chapman and Waylon Wallace and one great granddaughter, Audrey Jayde Gastin. GLADYS THOMPSON WILLIAMSON passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 6, 2016, at the age of 91, in Brady, Texas. Gladys was born June 11, 1925, in Logan County, West Virginia, to Herb and Myrtle Adams Thompson. She and her late husband, Naaman Williamson, were blessed with six children, Naaman, Joyce, Laura, Pamela, Gary and David. Gladys was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints. Family was always first and foremost in her life.She loved cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren. She loved to make cookies and her famous chocolate cake. Her loving, caring heart and beautiful smile will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Naaman Williams; parents, Herb and Myrtle Thompson; as well as two sons, Gary and David Williamson. Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Landgraf, Laura Donaldson, Pamela LaForge and Naaman Moorehouse; 13 grandchildren; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Brother Don Mills, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Dock Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va.

ROBERT LEE McKENZIE, 87, of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the Huntington VA Medical Center. Bob was born November 2, 1928, in Ceredo, W.Va., a son of the late George W. and Bertha Pauley McKenzie. He retired from Sears Department Store. Bob attended the Ashland School of Watchmaking and was a Master Clockmaker and Watch repairman. He was a US Army veteran and a life member of American Legion Post #93 Kenova, whose Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside rites. Bob was also a 32 degree Mason and was a member of Kenova Masonic Lodge # 110 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Lodge in Charleston, W.Va. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxine Hall McKenzie, whom he called the prettiest girl in Ceredo; two brothers, Orville and Delbert McKenzie; two sisters, Jenny Shingleton and Mae Ream, and one son-in-law, Lovell T. Mulkey. He is survived by his children, Bobby Jack Marks of Kitts Hill, Ohio, Timothy Lee McKenzie of Ceredo, W.Va., and Alyce Lynn (Larry) North of Gallipolis, Ohio; his grandchildren, Bobby C. Chaffin, Casey Chaffin, Jeffrey B. Marks, Jamie Fannin, Jody Archer and Bobbi Caldwell, and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to Laura Hampton for all the loving care and help she showed Bob and the family. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. DON PERRY, 71, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away peacefully at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. He retired from the WV State Police Detachment in South Charleston, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Betty Perry; two daughters, Sherry (Dale) Osburn and Shelly (Brock) Tucker, all of Huntington; two grandchildren, Miranda Osburn and Tyler Tucker, both of Huntington; two sisters, Helen Phillips of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Betty (Benny) Anderson of Huntington; several nieces, nephews and a special friend who was like a big brother, Ron Cade. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Alma Perry Walker, and nine siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Lavalette Fire Department EMT Staff, Hospice of Huntington and those who have prayed for him during his illness. RONALD LEE STEPHENS, 70, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the VA Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was born August 5, 1946, to the late Charles L. and Edna Blake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Stephens; siblings, Charles L. Blake, Dorotha M. Menne, Mary Hemming, Bertha Woodyard, Betty Gerlach, Donna K. Sowards, Ruby Ratcliff, Robert Blake, Donald Blake and Rosella Abbott. He retired from ACF Industries and was a former employee with the Veterans Home in Barboursville. He was a member of Kenova American Legion Post #93. He was a Vietnam Marine Corps veteran and a foster parent to many children. He is survived by one daughter, Katrina (Dave) Brown of Wayne, W.Va.; one son, Ronnie (Marilyn) Stephens of Groveport, Ohio; four grandchildren, Chance Brown, Morgan Stephens, Zack Eales and Ronnie Black; and one brother, Issac "Mick" (Ida) Blake of Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio, by Pastor Jerome Whitfield. VIRGINIA FRANCES PERRY RANSTAD, age 73, of Nashville, TN went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Saint Thomas West in Nashville, TN. Private funeral services will be held at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home. Interment will be at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Virginia was born March 1, 1943 in Perry Ridge, Dunlow, West Virginia to the late Clarence Perry and Hattie Sutherland Perry Maynard. She retired from Black & Decker in Nashville, TN. Virginia loved her family and was a big animal lover especially for her two dogs, Tank and Rex she also enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Larry G Ranstad, parents, stepfather (whom she loved like a Dad) Archie Maynard; sister, Joyce Faye Perry; two stepsisters Henrietta Burke and Erie Milam. Survived by daughter, Sandy (Ray) Chaney of Huntington, WV; Allen (Dena) Juergemeier of Murfreesboro, TN; two grandchildren, Keith (Jessica) Juergemeier, Valley Juergemeier; one great grandchild, Lily Juergemeier all of Murfreesboro, TN; three sisters, Doris (Lafe) Copley of Rittman, Ohio, Karen Maynard of Cleveland, Ohio, Cheryl Maynard of Prichard, WV; stepsister, Sharrie Pack of Wayne, WV; two brothers, Alpha Gene Perry of Seville, Ohio and Ray Perry of Rittman, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews. ELMER FREDERICK NAPIER, 81, of Lavalette, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Philadelphia United Baptist Church, Lavalette, with Elders Roger Maynard, Tommy Damron and Charley Lucas Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #93, Kenova. He was born on April 6, 1935, in Logan, W.Va., to the late Nathan and Nannie Burks Napier. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta Brumfield Napier; sisters, Audrey Owens, Helan Etta Brown and Nannie Mae Napier; brothers, Frank, Charles and Nathan "Nate" Napier. Elmer was a member of Philadelphia United Baptist Church where he was a trustee, served as a deacon and loved singing in the choir. He also served on the Board of Directors at First Priority Federal Credit Union and was a member of the Wayne County Veterans Association. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and retired from the United States Postal Services. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Elmer Napier Jr. and wife Vicki; daughter, Tamara Hanshaw and husband Rob, all of Lavalette; two sisters, Paulette Ross of Huntington and Suzie Epling and husband William of Wayne; two brothers, Elder Don Napier and wife Betty and Robert "Bob" Napier, all of Huntington. Elmer is also survived by his three grandchildren, Nathaniel Napier and wife Sierra of Chesapeake, Ohio, Elizabeth Sutphin and husband Drew of Ashland, Ky., and Zachary Napier and wife Marissa of Lavalette; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Chloey, Bailey, Brooklynn and Rylee, a very special friend, Mary, and a host of nieces, nephews and his wonderful church family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Philadelphia United Baptist Church, Lavalette.

JOHN HARVEY NAPIER, 85, of Kenova passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital. John was born November 17, 1930, in Wayne County, a son of the late Johnny and Virgie Frazier Napier. He was a retired school bus driver from the Wayne County school system. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris Napier; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny Napier (Susan), Steve Napier and Paul Napier; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Anderson (Frank); two sisters, Magdalene Fry and Tempe Farley; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. JOY LYNN ADKINS, 45, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on September 10, 2016. She was born on August 11, 1971, in Cabell County, West Virginia, the daughter of David Lee Adkins and Joyce Marie Hale. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her parents; stepmother, Stella Adkins, children, Destiny Parsley (Eric) and Christopher Cearley, two grandchildren, Kayden Dean and Haley Marie; fiance, Johnny Workman; siblings, Michelle Cooper (Gary), Stacey Dobbins (Victor) and Jessica Salvatore, niece, Cassie Williams; nephews, William and Nathan Hill; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside service will be noon Monday, September 19, 2016, at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Ceredo, W.Va., Pastor Chad Hatfield officiating. LUMMIE BROWN, 64, of Crum, WV, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at her residence. She was born on September 12, 1951, in Delbarton, WV, to the late Claude Vernatter and Vada Runyon Vernatter. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Jo Heath, Juanita Blackburn and Claudine Vernatter and one brother, Burl Vernatter. Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Lannie Brown, daughter, Lorene Brown, son-in-law, Christopher Garland, two granddaughters, Kassadee Alley and Brooklyn Garland all of Crum, WV, two brothers, Otis Vernatter of Crum, WV, and Ted Vernatter (Phyllis Jean) of Michigan, three sisters, CloAnn Copley, Jeannie Holmes, both of Crum, WV, and Roxie Dotson (Ed) of Texas. Lummie is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Per her wishes, there will be no services. Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, is in charge of the arrangements.

EDNA MAY GAYHART, 70 of Huntington, WV passed away on September 11, 2016. She was born on May 18, 1946 in Wayne County, WV; a daughter of William Jarrell and Mary (King) Jarrell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jim Jarrell, Ada Hart, Romey Hale and Kathleen McCloud. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Robert Lee Gayhart. They had no children together but opened up their home and raised as their own: Viola Ballard, Mary Evans, Paul Hart, Timothy Hart, Sam Hart and Steve Hart. Also surviving is her sister, Pauline Crabtree; a host of nieces and nephews and very special friends, Truman and Jean Maynard. She was a member of Living Waters Revival Center, Huntington. Funeral services for Edna will be conducted on Friday at noon, September 16, 2016 with Rev. Truman Maynard officiating with visitation one hour prior at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home. ANNA LOUISE MILLS, age 76, of Louisa, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland, KY. Mrs. Mills was born October 17, 1939 Huntington, WV. She is the daughter of the late William Jennings and the late Hester Anna (Berry) Stiltner. Louise was a Homemaker and a member of the Catalpa Free Will Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband: Willie E. Mills , one daughter: Leigh Anna Crabtree and husband Rich of Fort Gay, WV and two sons: Edward Lee Mills of Louisa, KY and Brian Scott Mills of Louisa, KY. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Cody Crabtree, Kenneth Mills, Charlie Crabtree, Allison Crabtree and Carley Mills. In addition to her grandchildren Louise leaves behind four great-grandchildren; Kennedy Mills, Presley Mills, Anna Leigh Hayes and Tristan Robertson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at the Catalpa Free Will Baptist Church in Louisa, KY with Rev. Mike Cox officiating. PERLE LYNTON BLANKENSHIP, 93, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away peacefully Monday, September 12, 2016 at Genesis Putnam Health Center. He was born September 27, 1922 in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of the late Rafael "Rafe" and Mary Blankenship. JOHNIE HILL, 86, of Lavalette, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. CURTIS ROBERTSON, 78, of Fort Gay, WV passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. He was born in Fort Gay on October 17, 1937 to the late Cecil and Nellie Dunn- Robertson. Curt was a welder having worked for American Car and Foundry for over 30 years and he attended the Tomahawk Freewill Baptist church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a special sister-in-law Margaret Wagner. Curt leaves behind a loving and devoted family including his wife of nearly 55 years Karen Lee Edwards-Robertson of Fort Gay; two daughters Leann (Jim) Howard of Louisa and Annette (John) Gaskins of Scott Depot; three grandchildren Katie (Eric) McGinnis of Louisa, Bobbi Howard of Louisa and Jake Gaskins and his fiancée Megan Mancuso of Bridgeport, WV; a very special Great Granddaughter Gracie McGinnis; one sister Margaret Lou Zeiters of Louisa; three brothers Claude Robertson of Fort Gay, Delbert Robertson of Fort Gay and Cecil Edward Robertson of Ashland; a special sister-in-law Mary Lynn Smith of Lavalette as well as many friends and extended family members all of whom will miss him. ANGELA GAIL FINLEY, 49, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with her Lord on September 16, 2016. She fought a tough battle with cancer. She was born on November 4, 1966, in Huntington, a daughter of Jerry Chafin and Joyce Ann Kinser. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Betty Jo Chafin. Angela is survived by her fiance, Randy Jividen; her parents; her children, Sheila Church and Jason Church; her siblings, Bonnie Joyce Clark (Danny), Margaret Deloris "Marlo" Simpkins, Ethel Denise Boden (Jeff), Lois Ann Thompson, Jerry Wallace Chafin (Amanda) and Andrew Nelson Merritt; her special friend, John Harvey Church; her nieces and nephews, April, Danyelle, Amber Jerrica, Michael, Chris, Jeremy, Zack, J.T. and Dixie. Also surviving are her three great-nieces and two great-nephews; and her two fur babies; her dart family and a host of family and friends. HAYES STANLEY, a loving husband of more than 70 years, devoted father of seven children, and a World War II combat veteran, passed away at 3:42 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016, at Midland Meadows ALF-Memory Care Unit in Ona. Born on October 16, 1923, at Laura, Ky., he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Causby Jean Stanley, with whom he had resided at 55 Stanley Drive, Prichard, W.Va., from 1997. Before that, they had maintained their family home at Breeden, W.Va., since 1950. In addition to his wife Causby, he was also preceded in death by his father, Joseph Corbett Stanley, by his mother, Matilda "Tilda" Jude Stanley Sartin, by his brother, Walker Stanley, by his sisters, Myrtle Stanley Fields, Laudia Stanley Ogle, Margie Stanley Miller, and by his half-brothers, Lloyd Sartin and Robert Sartin. He is survived by his half-brother, the Elder Wallace Sartin, and his half-sister, Margaret Sartin Simpkins. He is also survived by his children, daughters: Linda Carol Kast (Bob), Hazel Mae Mikula (Phil), Mary Ruth Spaulding (Earsten) and Janie Gail Arnholt (Bill), and sons: Joseph Corbett Stanley (Susan), Henry Philip Stanley (Teressa) and Bruce Erwin Stanley (Debbie), as well as a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many, many others. He served in the United States Army from November 11, 1941, through October 26, 1943, when he was honorably but medically discharged from Company F, 145th Combat Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division (the "Buckeye" Division). While on active duty, Hayes served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, particularly the Northern Solomon Islands campaign, from May 26, 1942, until September 6, 1943, his unit having seen action on Guadalcanal and New Georgia (Battle of Munda Point) during his enlistment. Prior to retiring to Prichard, W.Va., he served as the Postmaster of Breeden, W.Va., having been appointed to the position in 1959 by then-Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield. He was also a disabled coal miner and worked many years as a timber man. He was a member of the Samaria Church of Old Regular Baptist, Sardis Association, at Dingess, W.Va. At the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, there will be a viewing and service from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 18, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, September 19. Interment will follow at the Stanley Family Cemetery at Prichard, W.Va., with a short graveside service. A reception will follow at 55 Stanley Drive in Prichard, W.Va. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the staff and management of Midland Meadows as well as Hospice of Huntington for their diligent and caring efforts to assure Hayes' final days were spent in quiet comfort. CLARENCE FLOYD ARTHUR, 36, of Kenova, passed away September 16, 2016, while visiting his brother and sister-in-law in Harrodsburg, Ky. He was born October 2, 1979, in Huntington, W.Va., the youngest son of Gladolia Hinkle Arthur and Herbert Lee Arthur. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Clarence is survived by his three brothers, Coy Lee Arthur (Ivadean), Gary Kent Arthur (Susan), David Eugene Arthur (Gail), and two special nieces, Christi Arthur Captain (Kyle) and Tabitha Arthur Brillhart (Jon), whom he thought of as little sisters rather than nieces. He also leaves behind four special great-nephews and a great-niece, whom he adored, Huck and Gage Captain, Bray, Remi and Jack Jack Brillhart. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends that he loved dearly. We will all miss our Schlebrock. But we are happy knowing that he is in Heaven, in his new body, able to hear, speak clearly and breathe without difficulty. KERMIT MILLS, JR., 68, of Wayne, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness. Kermit was the owner of Majestic Distributing Company and the former Pioneer Auto Supply. He was a founding member of Wayne Lions Club. His wife, Nina Perkins Mills, a grandson, Jared Michael Christopher, and stepfather, Gene "Smokey" Dolin, also preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Sherri Christopher (Gary Perry) of Wayne; two sons, Kermit Mills III (Denissa Adkins) and Garrett Daniel Mills, all of Wayne; seven grandchildren, Josh Ferguson, Megan Smith, Marissa Pelfrey, Breanna Mills, Kermit "KJ" Mills IV, Hannah Mills and Jacob Mills; and five great-grandchildren, J.T., Isabella, McKenzie, Aniyah and Keagan. ALBERT MERRITT of East Lynn, W.Va., was born April 20, 1918, and departed this life on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the age of 98. The son of the late Albert and Safrona Merritt, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jarrells Merritt, and eight brothers and sisters, Mae Nance, Sylvia Clay, Letha Adkins, Thelma McDonald, Bruce Merritt, Howard Merritt, Homer Merritt and Donald Merritt. Albert spent most of his adult life in Michigan but retired to his native Wayne County where he spent the rest of his days. Survivors include one daughter, Janet (Larry) Adkins of Huntington, W.Va.; and three sisters, Rachel Skeens of Trenton, Michigan, Bessie Fortner of Amherst, Ohio and Ruth Asbury of East Lynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Albert was a kind, gentle man with a ready smile for anyone he met. Albert's wish was to be at home with family in his final days - God granted his wish! MATTIE ANN MCCREERY, 93, formerly of Huntington and Ceredo, passed from this life and went home to God, on September 19, 2016, while living at the Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home, South Point, Ohio. Hers was an abundant life well lived; she was a wonderful mother to her children, who loved her dearly, and was adored by all her friends and relatives. Mattie was born Mattie Ann Rowsey on December 11, 1922, in Huntington, and was one of five children born to Fitzhugh Lee and Minnie Moxley Rowsey and part of a family of eight children in the household. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles N. McCreery Sr., three sisters, Roberta Paules, Geraldine Crawford and Dorothy Chapman, and four brothers, John Rowsey, Jack Rowsey, Ivan Chapman and Teddy Chapman. She is survived by her children, Becky (Donald) Muth of Ashburn, Virginia; Karen (Robert) Mendell of Sammamish, Washington; Vicki (John) Hagy of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Charles (Leigh) McCreery II of Milton, West Virginia; and her seven wonderful grandchildren, Frank, Andrea, Laura, Colin, JD, Charlie and Jake, all of whom she loved and adored. She also has four great-grandchildren, Miriam, Shay, Harley and Jack. At the time of her passing, she was expecting two more great-grandchildren. She was a former member of First Congregational Church of Huntington where she attended from childhood until 1996 when she then began attending FirstCongregational Church of Ceredo. She loved her church homes, her Christian Faith and all of the people who attended there. Mattie was employed by Star Furniture Company as a credit clerk for many years until her retirement in the mid-1980s. While her children were growing up in Westmoreland, she was both a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She instilled a deep love of nature and reading in her children. Mattie and her late husband, Charles, moved from their Westmoreland home of over 20 years to South Point, Ohio, where they spent their retirement years together until 2002 when, following the passing of her husband, she moved to Ceredo Manor. Mattie thoroughly enjoyed the ten years she lived at Ceredo Manor and the family wants to thank all of her friends who might still be there - especially Carol Casto, the director. Ceredo Manor was truly a blessing at an important time in her life. The family also wishes to thank all the staff at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home where she has lived since July of 2012. CHARLES LEWIS BOWENS, 88, of Fort Gay, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. He was born on April 21, 1928 in Wayne County to the late Christopher Columbus and Nancy Music-Bowens. He was a retired Laborer for the N&W Railroad and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Maintenance Away. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons Larry Keith Bowens and Joe Michael Bowens; one grandson Eric Keith Bowens; a son-in-law Dennis Davis as well as 10 Brothers and Sisters. He leaves behind a loving family including three sons Phillip Ray (Lorine) Bowens, Carl David Bowens and Charles Jason Ray Bowens all of Fort Gay; one daughter Debra Lou Davis of Huntington; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren with another one on the way as well as a host nieces and nephews, friends and extended family. Her sister Arbutus Roark, also preceded her in death along with four infant brothers and sisters. Arvella was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Israel Church. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Columbus Carl Marcum; five children, Sheila Kay Marcum of Huntington, W.Va., Vera Gwendolyn (Kevin) Merritt of Genoa, Lorna Lynn (Mark) Bradshaw of Wayne, Carl David Marcum (Martha Moorehart) of Washington Courthouse, Oh., and Ida Belle Marcum of Barboursville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren Shannan (Timothy) Gillam of Wayne, Joshua Brunty all of Wayne, Jonathan (Courtnay) Collier of Huntington, Emily Bradshaw of Westmoreland, Ethan Bradshaw of Wayne, Rachel Kitts of South Point, Oh., and Casey Fizer of Barboursville; and 10 great grandchildren. He was born November 11, 1951, in Lincoln County, a son of the late Ellis Harold and Ova Cremeans Napier. He was a retired employee of Cabell County Board of Education with 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Napier. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Porterfield Napier; two sons, Michael Ellis Napier of Huntington and Jonathan Michael Napier of Barboursville; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Elmer Endicott of Salt Rock; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Charlotte Napier of Frazeysburg, Ohio, Debbie Napier of Scott Depot; two granddaughters, Lakyn and Kinley Napier; aunt and uncle, Mary and Jim Arnold of Milton; and several nieces and nephews. RICHARD LEVI EVANS, 78, of Huntington, W.Va., died on September 22, 2016, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Richard was born October 29, 1937, in Westmoreland and attended Vinson High School and Marshall University. Richard was the owner and operator of Evans Welding and Fabricating Company for over 50 years. He was formerly a teacher at East Huntington Trade School. He is survived by his wife, Stella Evans; his brother, Jack Evans; sister-in-law, Mrs. William (Jean) Evans, and sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Sue) Evans; his children, Cheryl (Brian) Dowling and Deborah Dulchavsky; his grandchildren, Joseph (Nico) Conner, Nicole Baucom ( ance Todd), Alexandria, Mark, Lindsey, Michael, William; and a great-grandson, Colin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Carter (Willis), who has been a tremendous help for Stella in the past months, and dear friends, Brenda and Rocco Morabito, and Marsha and Roger O'Dell. He was predeceased by his father, William Edward Evans, mother, Emogene Rowe Evans, stepmother, Sylvia Gothard Evans, brother, William Evans, brother, James Evans, and sister-in-law, Mary Helen (Honey) Evans; also his daughter, Rebecca Evans Phelps, and a grandson, Dain Carson Evans.
