JERRY LEE FRY, 54, of Lavalette, died Nov. 1, 2016 at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.

JOHN F. CAREY IV, 51, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, formerly of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. John was born June 23, 1965, in Ashland to John F. Carey III and Anita Ramsdell Arrington. He graduated from Boyd County High School in 1984, and worked in Telecommunications as a crew leader. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his 4-wheeler. He loved the outdoors. Left to cherish his memory is his fiancee, Melissa Copley Evans; his father, John F. Carey III (Donna) of Florida, and his mother, Anita Ramsdell Arrington of Catlettsburg, Ky.; children, Jordan Followay of Ashland, Maggie Hall of Ashland, Maddi Evans, Hannah Evans and Jeb Evans of Fort Gay. Also surviving is a brother, Shane Carey of Florida; his Aunt Barb Clevenger; and cousins, Brian Ramsdell and Erin Ramsdell. Preceding him in death was his brother, Jason Arrington; stepfather, Ralph Arrington; his maternal grandparents, James and Helen Ramsdell; and an Uncle Keith Ramsdell. A Celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, 2702 Panola Street, Catlettsburg, Ky. Visiting hours will be Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. ROBERT WAYNE "BOB" FITZPATRICK, 87, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 7, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastors Bob Huron and Jeff Wickert. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 and Masonic Rites conducted by Crescent Lodge 32 AF&AM. Bob was born on June 17, 1929, in Huntington, the son of the late James Monroe and Helen Marie Carter Fitzpatrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ann Wagers Fitzpatrick; one son, James David Fitzpatrick; and two brothers, James Edwin and Paul Stanley Fitzpatrick. Bob was owner of Fitzpatrick Furniture store for over 54 years, a member of the Westmoreland Church of Christ for over 60 years, a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Crescent Lodge 32 AF&AM, Ceredo, for over 50 years and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Terilyn and Roger Mitchell, sister, Helen Dolores Ward, sister-in-law, Fern Fitzpatrick Wilson, special niece and nephew, Timothy and Sharon Fitzpatrick, host of nieces and nephews, and a special friend and caregiver, Jamie Berglund. LOWELL E. PERDUE, 93, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jamie Gump. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. He was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Shoals, W.Va., a son of the late Walter and Isabelle Gibson Perdue. He graduated in 1942 from the Ceredo-Kenova High School, joined the U.S. Navy and attended the Navy Diesel School in Richmond, Va., after graduating was sent to the Amphibious training base in Little Creek, Va., then to the Navy base in Fort Pierce, Fla., then back to New York for transportation to England for further training on the invasion of France. He was assigned to the USS Joseph T. Dickman (APA-13) for the invasion, he and his crew were transporting soldiers into Utah Beach when they hit a sand bar and couldn't move, they unloaded the soldiers who sunk with the heavy gear, the 88th infantry division were getting close to them, so the crew split up, he and his coxswain swam ashore and got behind the concrete walls, they were told that a Navy base quarters would be there for them, but after staying on the beach from June 6, 1944, they finally found the headquarters, three miles up the beach about a mile inland, underground, so on July 24, 1944, they got orders to catch the first Landing Ship, Tank going back to England, which they did. After three months orders came through to return to the states, which they did, they caught the Queen Elizabeth in Scotland bound for New York. After a thirty day leave he returned to New York and was sent to San Francisco, Calif., for the rest of his Navy career. After returning home he was hired as a fireman for the Norfolk and Western Railroad, where he was promoted to engineer after three years. He retired after 38-1/2 years at the age of 60. Memberships include, (Life) United Transportation Union of Cleveland, Ohio, (Life) Crescent Lodge #32 AF&AM of Ceredo, W.Va., Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston, W.Va., Huntington Shrine Club, was a 32nd Degree Sottish Rite Mason, El Hasa Shrine of Ashland, Ky., a Kentucky Colonel, (Life) American Legion post #93 of Kenova, (Life) VFW Post 1064 of Huntington, Order of the Eastern Star Marcum Chapter #6 of Ceredo and he received the highest medal that the French gives out, and that is the Legion of Honor and was Knighted a Knight in the French Army, for helping to free the French in WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jeannine Speed Perdue, a son John F. Perdue, three brothers, Earl Perdue, Leonard Perdue and Walter M. "Dudy" Perdue. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie Perdue Bias and Mark Bias of Huntington; a granddaughter; two grandsons, Darin and Dewayne Perdue; five nieces including a special niece, Joyce Cross; six nephews; and a special friend Rosa Hamilton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 9 at the Reger Funeral Home, Huntington. Marcum Chapter #61 OES of Ceredo will conduct services 7 p.m. at the funeral home. CLARA BELLE DAVIS, 91, of Willowick, Ohio, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, at David Simpson Hospice House, Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Elders Glenn Penix, Flem Arrowood and Glen Arrowood officiating. Burial will follow at the Arrowood-Dutton Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. Clara was born July 19, 1925, in Boones Camp, Kentucky, to the late George and Emma Walters Dutton. Survivors include her husband, Jessie Lee Davis, whom she married on December 6, 1947, two brothers, Arnold Lee Dutton (Doris) and George Roger Dutton (Sue), all of Mentor, Ohio; sister, Floretta Dutton Blair of Willowick, Ohio, and sister-in-law, Delsie Davis Elkins of Kenova, W.Va. Clara was preceded in death by two sisters, Earnestine Dutton and Ann Quinn (Dutton) Morrison; three brothers, Farlen, William Allen and Charles Edward Dutton. CAROL LORETTA ASBURY PERSUN, 78, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 26, 1938, at East Lynn, W.Va., a daughter of the late Curtis and Gladys Doss Asbury. Carol previously worked as a billing clerk for HIMG. She had an unconditional love for all animals. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter LaDonna Welker and a sister Yvonne McNallen. Survivors include her two grandsons, Rodney Ellis and wife Jill of Lavalette, W.Va., and Robert Ellis and wife Andrea of Wayne, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Madylin and Kendall Ellis and a special cousin that was like a sister to her, Leota Queen and husband Don of Wayne, W.Va. At her request, private services will be held for family only. There will be no visitation. Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, is in charge of arrangements.

TRUMAN RUSSELL JR., 63, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Danny Stapleton. Burial will follow at Adkins Cemetery on Little Lynn Creek Road, East Lynn, W.Va. He was born January 2, 1953, on Little Lynn Creek Road in East Lynn, W.Va., a son of the late Truman and Gladys Davis Russell. Truman was formerly a construction worker and also worked for Addington Brothers Strip Mining. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Janet Russell, Mary Justine Justice and husband Roy; brothers, Clifford, David and Danny Russell. Surviving to cherish his memory is his son, Billy Truman Russell and wife Christy of Wayne, W.Va.; sisters, Gladys Marie Ferguson and husband Ralph of New Boston, Mich., Betty June Russell of Lavalette, W.Va., Arlene Caldwell and husband Delbert of Fort Gay, W.Va., Judy Christian and husband Roger of Wayne, W.Va.; brothers, Jerry Lee Russell and wife Kathern of East Lynn, W.Va., Jimmy Dale Russell of East Lynn, W.Va., Jackie Allen Russell and companion Mary "Tiney" Fortner of East Lynn, W.Va.; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. LORI DALE JACKSON WHITE, 51 of South Point, Ohio, died Nov. 5, 2016 at home. She worked in home healthcare. SANDRA KAY CROCKETT CABELL, 53, of Hurricane, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastor Danny Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at the Charley Crockett Cemetery, Wilsons Creek. Sandra was born on January 17, 1963, at Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late James Allen Crockett and Sue Kitts Perry. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her loving daughter, Amy Workman of Huntington, a sister, Francis Stump and husband Richard of Hurricane, W.Va., her nieces, Andi and Sydney Stump, a brother, James Allen Crockett of Chesapeake, Ohio, and nephew, Justin Deeds. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

ERSLE J. SMITH ELLIS, 93, of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at home. She was born October 1, 1923, in Wayne County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Erskin Smith and Garvie Wellman Christian. She was also preceded in death by beloved husband, Henry L. Ellis. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends; she also enjoyed playing with her two special dogs, Rowdy and Sassy. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Patricia Ellis, and a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mike Smith, all of Ormond Beach, Florida. She had three grandchildren, Michael Ellis, Robert and wife Stacey Ellis and Kandi Smith. There were also two precious great-grandchildren, Reese and Ryder Ellis. She will be missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family. WILLIAM OWENS (BILL), age 74, went to his heavenly home Saturday, November 12, 2016. He was born December 14, 1941, son of the late Harold and Lyndell Plaster Owens. He was preceded in death by a loving sister, Sherlene (Owens) Bentle. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel; brother, Odie Owens; five stepchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. There will be no service, no visitation and no flowers. EDRA KAY SIAS, 69, of Lavalette, died Nov. 12, 2016 at home. She was a retired nurse from Cabell Huntington Hospital. GLORIA ANN BILLUPS, 87 of Huntington, widow of Ollie S. Billups, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility, Ashland, Ky. Graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at White Chapel Mausoleum in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Entombment will follow in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. She was born August 18, 1929, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late William and Minnie Runyon Crisel. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by six sisters, Edna Mae Mays, June Chapman, Mary Moore, Mauntery Chafin, Mauney Dishon, and Dave Ola Fulerton; and four brothers, Robert Crisel, Richard Crisel, William Crisel and Raben Crisel. She was a mother, grandmother and homemaker. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Marshall Billups and Patricia Lewis of Michigan City, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Aloma Sue and Vernon Doak of South Point, Ohio; seven grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Mark Vickers, Robert and Michelle Billups, Louisa and Ray Johnson, Karen and Bill Koch, Susan and John Emerick, Peggy and Dan Lustgarten, and Kevin Lewis; 15 great-grandchildren, six great- great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. MARY EMMA WELLMAN LEMASTER FERGUSON, 86, of Fort Gay, W.Va., went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born on August 29, 1930, to the late Wayne and Clementine Dawson Wellman. Mary retired after more than 20 years as a school cook in Cabell County, where she was known for putting her heart into everything. Mrs. Ferguson was a longtime member of Grace Gospel Church in Huntington and Fort Gay First Baptist Church. Mary dedicated her life to caring for those around her. No matter what struggle life dealt her, she met it with strength and love that was felt by all who knew her. She was a mother to more than just her children; she impacted the lives of her niece, nephew, grandchildren as well as the lives of many school children in Cabell County. She touched so many lives and taught us so much that will live on for generations. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands, Everett Lemaster and JB Ferguson; one son, Harold William Lemaster and one sister, Loretta Britt. Surviving is a loving family including three sons, David (Colleen) Lemaster of Fort Gay, W.Va., Steve (Donna) Lemaster of Aurora, Colo., Michael (Kaye) Ferguson of Kenova, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Emily (Drew) Hinchman, Jason Black, Ryan (Jennifer) Lemaster, William (Michelle) Lemaster, Sean Ferguson and Chloe (Jake) Isaacs; one niece, Betsy Britt; one nephew, Chuck Britt and six great-grandchildren as well as many friends and extended family members all of whom will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be under the direction of Young Funeral Home and be held at the Fort Gay First Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, with Pastor Tim Preston officiating. JAMES EDWARD DAMRON, 71 of Genoa, W.Va., departed this life for his heavenly home on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born December 15, 1944, at Ferguson, W.Va., a son of the late Forest Sr. and Bertha Damron. He was also preceded in death by three infant siblings. James leaves behind his loving wife, Nella Damron; one daughter, Sheri Stepp; one son, Jim Allen Damron; and one grandson, Justin Perry. Also surviving are five sisters, Edith Jervis, Ethel Thurman, Katherine Damron, Thelma Porter and Linda Cox; three brothers, Forest Damron, Arthur Damron and Cledith Damron; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, W.Va., with Pastor Doug Thompson officiating. CHARLES DANIEL "CHUCK" ELLISON, 65, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., with Brothers Tony Clay, Johnnie McSweeney and Phil Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens at Wayne, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va. He was born March 12, 1951, in Huntington, W.Va., and was raised by his late grandparents, Charles Eustis and Dorothy Ellison. He was a truck driver for Black Diamond Produce and was a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church. Chuck was also a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Tomblin Ellison; a daughter, Melissa Debra Morgan of Proctorville, Ohio; a son, Richard "Rick" Ellison (Bonnie) of Barboursville, W.Va.; a sister, Elizabeth "Dood" Hill of Huntington, W.Va.; and six grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Ricky, Austin, Alex and Abby. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Friday at Morris Funeral Home.

MICHAEL JAMES THACKER, 24, of Prichard, W.Va., son of James Thacker, died Nov. 14, 2016. Arrangements are incomplete at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

KATHLEEN "NAN NAN" WOOTEN MARCUM, 93, of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, at her residence. She was born June 12, 1923, in Ceredo, W.Va., a daughter of the late Edward L. and Lillian Ward Wooten. Kathleen was a retired office manager from the practice of Dr. D. Sheffer Clark, M.D. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Edward Marcum, and beloved son, William Sanford "Bill" Marcum. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Marcum (Krista) of Kenova, W.Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Pancake (PC) of Huntington, W.Va., and one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Michelsen Marcum of Proctorville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Christy Marcum McDowell (Dale) of Graham, N.C., William H. "Billy" Marcum (Sarah) of Proctorville, Ohio, Beth Daugherty Frasher (Garey) of Kenova, W.Va., and Bryan Daugherty (Y) of Kenova, W.Va. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, Chase McDowell (Kayla Byrd), Kinser McDowell, Ethan Marcum, Carter Marcum, Collin Marcum and Noah Marcum, all of Proctorville, Ohio, Bryanna Frasher, Bryson Frasher, Jayden Daugherty and Jackson Daugherty, all of Kenova, W.Va., Corey Frasher of Leonardtown, Md.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anagene Gibbs (Tom) and Herma Matney (Edward); her beloved cat, Sugar; and a host of family and friends. LORETTA GAY MILLS, 69, of East Lynn, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Elder Roger Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at the Parsons Cemetery, Turkey Camp. Loretta was born on December 10, 1946, at East Lynn, W.Va., to the late Jay Mills and Gertrude Adkins Mills. She formerly worked as a secretary for Beech Fork Elementary School for 25 years and later for Wayne Elementary School for 16 years. She was a member of Liberty United Baptist Church. Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Ottie Mills; a son, Jarred Mills and wife Jennifer of Wayne, W.Va.; a sister, Barbara Pauley and husband David of East Lynn, W.Va.; five brothers, Eldon Mills and wife Barbara of Wayne, W.Va., William "Buddy Boy" Mills and wife Bessie, Carlos, Vernon and Emory Mills, all of East Lynn, W.Va.; and her two grandchildren, which were the light of her life, Jaycee and Jaxon Mills. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) MCGINNIS, 96, of Huntington, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Woodlands Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by the Rev. Mark Conner. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. She was the daughter of the late Ira James and Mabel Chapman McGinnis. Betty was a graduate of Marshall University. Associated with the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Hawaii during World War II and later the American Red Cross in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, Korea. She retired as Corporate Secretary of Service Warehouse Corporation in Huntington. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter I and the Woman's Club of Huntington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Eloise McGinnis and two brothers; Ira James McGinnis, Jr. and Lyle Beuhring McGinnis, M.D. She is survived by three nieces; Imogene F. Murray, Celeste M. Fraley and Carolyn C. McGinnis; one nephew, Lyle B. McGinnis, Jr., and seven great nieces and nephews, Hershel B. Murray II, Marian L. Folk, Kathleen F. Murray, James P. A beautiful soul gone too soon, MARILYN MARIE HALE, 23, of Wayne, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastor Otis Bowens and Greg Michels officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne. She was born February 3, 1993, in Huntington, a daughter of Lloyd Donovan Hale and Lanai Pridemore Hale of Wayne. Marilyn worked for DIRECTV and was a graduate of Wayne High School. Whoever had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn knows she was a pure blessing to anyone around her, there will never be a more spunky full of life woman. She was truly one of a kind. She is preceded in death by her grandfather Lloyd Ray Hale and her grandmother Marilyn Pridemore. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Austin Hale; grandparents, Emma and Pete Maynard and Freelin and Sally Pridemore; aunts, Traci (Roy) Barker, Amanda (Billy) Reynolds, Chantayla Pridemore and Ashley Pridemore, all of Wayne; and uncle, Justin (Jennifer) Pridemore of Winfield, W.Va. BARBARA ATKINS, 61, of Prichard passed away Monday, November 16, 2015, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born October 22, 1954, in Huntington, West Virginia, the late daughter of Beulah Faye Perry and Fisher Perry. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Shelia Redding, her son, Roger Dillon, and nephew, Russell Paul Redding. Barbara leaves behind her loving sister, Lisa Booth, grandson, Donald Dillon, a special Aunt, Roberta Saunders, a special friend, Vaughna Boyle, and a host of nieces and nephews. She enjoyed helping others, cooking for a crowd, and sewing. It was her wishes to have her body donated to science to continue helping others. MAXIE L. FERGUSON, 99, of Belle, West Virginia, passed away November 17, 2016, at his home. He was born May 19, 1917, in Fort Gay, West Virginia, and was raised on his parents’ farm along with 10 brothers and sisters. Maxie graduated from Fort Gay High School and a few years after graduation went to work at DuPont in Belle where he retired after 37 years. Maxie was a 60-plus year member of Judson Baptist Church in Belle where he also served as a deacon. He and his wife, June’s favorite pastime was spending time at their cabin in Pocahontas County. Maxie was an Army veteran of World War ll where he served in the 87th Infantry Division, 312 Combat Engineer Battalion. He was proud that he was a part of General Patton’s Third Army. He fought in the Saar Basin Battle, Battle of the Ardennes (also known as the Battle of the Bulge), and the Battle of the Rhine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, June Billlups Ferguson; parents, Curtis and Tokey Riggs Ferguson; sisters, Winifred Pauline Ferguson and Pearl May Ferguson; brothers, Elliott (Ruth) Ferguson, Hubert (Zelda) Ferguson, Raymond (Florine) Ferguson, Charles (Betty) Ferguson, Russell (Jean) Ferguson, and Clinton (Nina) Ferguson. Maxie is survived by two sisters, Phyllis (Howard) Crabtree of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, and Sarah Maxine Ferguson of Fort Gay. He is also survived by his two sons, Ronald (Brenda) Ferguson, Hillsboro, West Virginia, and Maxie (Tonya) Ferguson, Charleston, West Virginia, and four grandchildren, Kellie Ferguson (Andrew Loftis), Nitro, West Virginia, Kerri Beth (Seth) Black, Hampton, Virginia, Courtney (Tim) Leighton, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kevin Ferguson (Erica Jones), Plymouth, Massachusetts. Maxie is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and by special friend, Wanda (Paul) Pigott, Elkview, West Virgina, who was loved by Maxie and June as a daughter they never had. Special thanks to his caregivers who were thought of as members of the family. They provided care and compassion to Maxie during his last few years. FRANKLIN D. COMBS, 76, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016. He was born May 18, 1940 at Logan, W.Va., a son of the late Bert and Sena Combs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Almagene Browning and Lela Mae Browning; six brothers, Dean Combs, Nick Combs, Bert Combs, Jerry Combs, Mack Combs and Doug Combs; and one granddaughter, Amy Fry. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years whom he adored, Bessie Combs; one daughter, Denise Childers (Scott); two sons, Gregory Combs and Brain Jones (Veronica); eight grandchildren, Morgan Collins (Bobby), Kirsten Childers, Alison Wetzel (Cody), Matthew Jones (Elex), Stephen Jones, Taylor Jones, Tracy Clay, and Kayla Clay; four great-grandchildren, Harper Regan Jones, Larry Dale Bias, Kaitlin Collins, and Kylie Collins. BENJAMIN J. NEWSOME, 52, of Ft. Gay, WV, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital of Huntington, WV. He was born on October 26, 1964 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Corn Wallace and Millie Marie Price Newsome. He was a carpenter. Benjamin is preceded in death by his daughter, Icle Colleen Newsome as well as two sisters and one brother. Benjamin is survived by his son, Benjamin L. PATTY FRASHER WALLACE (April 5, 1930 – November 20, 2016) was the daughter of Charles Lace Frasher and Myrtle Portis Frasher of Fort Gay, West Virginia. In 1948, she was the Valedictorian of Fort Gay High School and graduated with a degree in Home Economics from her beloved alma mater, Berea College in 1952. Always athletic, she was able to pursue sports at Berea. She pitched for the softball team, was a guard on the basketball team and competed in synchronized swimming. Two hours after graduating, she married Virgil C. Wallace of Louisa, Kentucky in the Berea College Chapel. Besides homemaking and raising four children, she was active in Girl Scouts, community projects, DAR, the Louisa United Methodist Church and environmental causes. Many years were spent working on the environmental concerns of eastern Kentucky including mountain top removal. For over twenty years, Mrs. Wallace was very involved with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth serving as the chairperson from 1988-1990. Her environmental activism gained national attention in the 1990’s when she was featured in articles in Modern Maturity, Audubon magazine and on television’s "Earth Journal", Tom Brokaw’s "Expose’ " and "Investigative Reporter". Both Governors Brereton Jones and Paul Patton appointed her to the Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission. She was recognized many times for her environmental work including the recent honor of being one of the dedicatees of Wendell Berry’s book of essays, "Our Only World." Her parents, her older brother Dr. Jack Lester Frasher, and her son Bradley Frasher Wallace preceded Patty in death. She will be missed by her husband Virgil C. Wallace, her brother Charles Portis Frasher (Joyce), daughters Rebecca Wallace Pugh (Scott), Sara Wallace Henry (Joe), Amy Wallace Whelan (Jerry), six grandchildren Ethan Berg, Will Henry, Dove Henry, Josie Whelan, Wesley Whelan, Annie Whelan, two step-grandchildren Lauren Vick and Ross Pugh, two step great-granddaughters Payton and Grayson Vick, and many nieces and nephews. BILLYE JO BURNS SPAULDING, beloved wife, mother, sister and daughter, departed this world and entered her heavenly home on Sunday morning, November 20, 2016. She was a Christian from a very early age and it was meaningful to her family that she passed on Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the Christian calendar. Billye Jo was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, on August 22, 1935. She was the daughter of Bill and Edna Pack Burns, who preceded her in death. She attended the Methodist North Church in Catlettsburg and remembered the day the North and South churches were unified. Later she taught a youth Sunday school class and was a Methodist Youth Fellowship counselor along with her great friend, Georgia Matheny. She went to Catlettsburg schools. It was at Thomas R. Brown High School where she met the love of her life, Virgil Spaulding, who survives her. She and Virgil married September 4, 1952. For nearly 40 years, Billye Jo taught an interdenominational prayer group that was an integral part of her life, and for more than 25 years she was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church where she was devoted to teaching the Upper Room Class each Sunday. Billye Jo loved spending time with her fellow CHS classmates. First and foremost, Billye Jo loved family. She is survived by son, David Virgil Spaulding (wife Carmen Spaulding) of Paintsville, Ky.; daughter, Denise Spaulding of Catlettsburg; brother, Dan Burns (wife Marti Salvato) of St. George's, Grenada; sister, Pam Burns of Louisville, Ky.; and nephew, Darren Green of Los Angeles, Calif. JOHN JEWEL BILLUPS "JJ", 88, of Ceredo, left this earth onTuesday, November 22, 2016, to join his relatives and friends in Heaven. He was born on July 8, 1928, in Ceredo to the late John Jewel and Corrine (Gabbert) Billups. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Lou Ellen Frazier (Paul D) and brother-in-law Frank Plymale. JJ had a love for the town of Ceredo and its people where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School and Marshall University and also served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Kentucky West Virginia Gas Company and retired as Director of Engineering. JJ loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Ceredo where he served as a song leader, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Deacon Emeritus. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Ceredo Crescent Lodge. JJ enjoyed sports, especially C-K High School football games. He was so proud of his three boys who played on "AA" C-K High School championship teams. He served as President of the C-K Football Boosters, was a little league football coach, and a speaker at sports banquets. He also greatly enjoyed his time at the farm on Big Hurricane Creek. He was a "people person" and never met a stranger that didn't quickly become his friend. He was a strong family man that always provided for his wife, children, mother, and aunt. JJ was a positive role model for his boys and their families and was blessed with a good sense of humor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Roma Gail (Hatten) Billups, whom he always referred to as "Romie"; his three sons and daughters-in-law, John Billups (Leigh) of Ashland; Michael Billups (Jeanette) of Kenova; J D Billups (Rhonda) of Kenova; sister Ruth Plymale of Ceredo; grandchildren Amy Mullins (Steven), Jamie Bishop, John David Billups (Holly), Alexandra Billups, Aaron Billups (Sochill), Allison Kazee (Ryan), Joshua Billups; great-grandchildren Katie, John Ryan, Carder, Olivia, Rachel, Jackson, Elijah, Blaine, Harrison, and Brooks, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his pets Missy and Snowshoe. JAMES CLIFFORD CRABTREE, 71, of Disputanta, Va., died on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Anna Luther Crabtree; sisters, Anna Ruth, Doris Mae; brothers, Roy Crabtree, Donald Crabtree and Otis Crabtree Jr. James graduated from Buffalo High School in Wayne County, and had three years of college in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a respected business owner of James Crabtree Construction Company for 31 years. James loved his wife of 41 years and their three daughters and four grandchildren. On November 23, 2016, God called home his beloved son, ROGER LEE SMITH, Sr. He passed at home, after bravely battling lung cancer. Roger was surrounded with love and looked into the eyes of the love of his life, Betty, until he took his last breath. Roger loved his family with all that he had and he gave selflessly all of his life. He was a Supply Sergeant in the United States Army and retired from the Wayne County Board of Education. Roger was a strong role model for his children nd a wonderful provider for his whole family. He taught us to love, laugh, enjoy life, and more importantly, to walk in faith with the Lord. He was an adoring husband, an awesome Dad, an adored Grandfather and a loyal friend. He took a part of our hearts to Heaven with him. We will continue to love him, miss him and think of him every day. We know that he has received his crown of glory and he is preparing a place for us all to gather together again one day. We love you! He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Goldie Mae Bocook; one son, Jeremy Bocook; one daughter, Serena Bocook; two grandchildren, Andrew Rausch and Heather Floyd; two great-grandchildren, Johnny Roberts and Derrick Floyd; one sister, Cora Burns; several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Brenda Bocook. LILLIE MAE WATTS, 92, of Walton Hills, Ohio, formerly of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2016. She was born July 29, 1924 in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Hezekiah and Rose Davis. Her husband Franklin Watts also preceded her in death, along with two daughters, Phyllis Carol Graham, and Julia Faye Edburg; one son Thomas Franklin Watts; one granddaughter, Susan Bilek, one grandson, Richard Valler, Jr.; three brothers, Claude Davis, Dewey Davis, and Fred Davis; and two sisters, Lucille Taylor and Ruby Spence. Lillie was a homemaker who loved quilting, and the oldest member of Laurel Freewill Baptist Church in Wayne. She leaves behind two daughters, Ruth Ann (Richard) Valler of Walton Hills, Oh., and Ada Rose Stadlhofer of Wayne; four sons, David Watts of Garfield Heights, Oh., Kenneth (Linda) Watts of Hamlin, W.Va., Larry Watts of Gainesville, Fla., and Charles (Chris) Watts of Mich.; 25 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special friend Doris Steele of East Lynn, W.Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. GRACIE PARSLEY COLLINS, 65, of Kermit, West Virginia passed away at her home on Monday, November 21, 2016. She was born on March 3, 1951 to the late Birdie and Dorthy Williamson Copley. DREAMA DEAN MARSHALL, 34, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and is now free of her cancer. She was born December 16, 1981 at Garden City, Mich., and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by one aunt Rhonda Dean; one uncle Terry Dean; and one cousin Steven Wade. She leaves behind her fiancé John Marshall of Wayne; her father Jackie Dean of East Lynn, W.Va., two dear sons, Seth Tomblin and Logan Hamdan; special granny Shelba Cline of Wayne; parents-in-law, Tina and Wally Marshall of Wayne, all of whom she loved and was loved by; as well as a host of family and friends too numerous to mention. ROBERT ALLEN JOHNSON, 44, of Kenova, WV passed away on November 24, 2016 at his home after spending Thanksgiving Day with his family. He was born December 21, 1971 in Huntington, WV a son of Thelma Mae Lowe of Ona, WV and the late Ernest Russell Johnson. He had been employed as a construction worker for Ernie Colegrove Construction. In addition to his father he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Noah B. Lowe. Lowe, II and his wife, Debbie of Warsaw, IL and Noah Junior Lowe of Kenova; one aunt, Hester Hughes of Crescent City, FL and many other family members who will miss him. JOHNNY E. MCDANIEL, 59, of Wayne, WV, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, at his residence. He was born on January 29, 1957, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Kenneth McDaniel and Pearl Donato McDaniel. Johnny served in the United States Marines from April 1974-August 1978. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Fine and Mary McDaniel. Surviving to cherish his memories is his wife of 40 years, Susie McDaniel of Wayne, WV, daughters, Tina Blackburn (Chris) of East Lynn, WV, Tammy McDaniel (Ed) of Prichard, Vanessa Cottrell of Virginia, sons, Johnny McDaniel (Ashley) of Chesapeake, Ohio and Oscar McDaniel (Nicole) of Wayne and a sister Lois Billups (Ben) of Lavalette, WV. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tasha Clay (Cody), Avana Russell, Dakota Davis, Kaleb, Kyler, Karli and Chet McDaniel, Blake and Clayton McDaniel and Olivia Smith, Tiana Coleman and Bruce Seward, Jr., great grandchildren, Kynlee Clay and Anthony Russell, step grandchildren Christopher and Samantha Blackburn and Carter Black, special friends Randall Nicely and Edgar (Poady) Adkins. JAMES FITCH, 61 of Louisa, KY formerly of Crum, WV passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at the Three Rivers Medical Center following a long illness. She was born on June 13, 1930 in Webb, West Virginia to the late William and Martha Evans. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur Ray Copley and second husband, Clyde Copley. She is also preceded in death by 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Linie is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Ralph) Parsley of Kermit, West Virginia, son (grandson) Michael Scott (Pauletta) Copley of Crum, West Virginia, two grandson, Travis (Katrina) Parsley of Beauty, Kentucky and Dustin (Courtney) Parsley of Dunbar, West Virginia, three grandsons, Payton Copley, Conner Copley and Landon Parsley along with one great-granddaughter, Ella Parsley and one special nephew, Jimmy Copley. NORMA JANE WELLMAN ASHWORTH, 88, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away on November 28, 2016. THOMAS RUSSELL DORSEY, 65, of Ceredo, went to be with his Lord Monday, November 28, 2016, after a brief illness. Tom was born on October 20, 1951, in Wayne County to the late Ernest Lowell and Lucy Viola Patterson Dorsey. He was a retired accountant from Marshall University. He loved to attend his children's band concerts and could often be found behind the concession stand volunteering at their band competitions. His love for Snoopy was only trumped by his unending love for his pizza princess and dog, Sachi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Dorsey, and his father-in-law, Harry Prince. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Deborah Dorsey; two wonderful and loving sons, Stephen and Justin Dorsey; mother-in-law, Pearl Prince; three brothers, Fred (Kim) Dorsey, Randy (Tina) Dorsey, Jon Dorsey; many brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. BENJAMIN MICHAEL STEELE, 44 of Flatwoods, KY passed Tuesday November 29, 2016 at his home. Benji was born December 4, 1971 in Cabell County, WV, a son of Taze and Becky Cole Steele of Flatwoods. Benji was a 1989 graduate of Vinson High School where he played football. After graduation, he served his country honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, he attended Marshall University earning his Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration in 2002. He was a service representative with the Social Security Administration in Ironton and previously had worked at the V. A. Hospital in Huntington. Benji enjoyed working with his horses and raising Olde English Bull Dogs and was a member of the Olde English Bulldogge Association. He was a member of Spring Valley Freedom Baptist Church and attended Grace Baptist Church with his family. Benji is survived by his parents, his adoring wife Susanna Bailey Steele, children Seth Steele, fiancé Juliana McComas, of Huntington; and Brenna Mackenzie Steele at home. Also surviving are his brothers Paul Wesley Steele, his wife Amber of Ashland; and Chaz Allen Steele, his wife April of Huntington; Mother-in-law Judy Tracy, her husband Tim of South Point, OH, and father-in-law Joseph Bailey, of Barboursville, WV; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his special pups Jimmy and J.J. Benji was preceded in death by his infant daughter Olivia Rose Steele in 2015. JERRY DUNN, 68, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Born September 18, 1948, he was the son of Norman and Mabel Dunn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dottie Jean Dunn Miles. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Ann Varner Dunn; children, Kay (Paul) Browning of Proctorville, Ohio, and Marie Dunn of Kenova, W.Va.; grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Browning; and brothers, Billy (Cindy) Dunn of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Lee (Peggy) Dunn of Clifton Forge, Va.; and brother-in-law, Otis Miles of Maxwelton, W.Va., as well as several nieces and nephews. Jerry attended Shephard University and volunteered on the local fire department during his time there. He worked in the grocery business and was known for his sense of humor. Jerry will be greatly missed by his friends and family. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 10, at Baptist Temple Church, Huntington.
