After a hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer, LARRY TAYLOR ARTRIP, 76, left us to be with the Lord on November 30, 2018, with his family by his side in Lavalette, W.Va. He was born on January 20, 1942, in Wayne, West Virginia, and grew up in Fort Gay, where he graduated from Fort Gay High School. He spent a lot of his time outdoors until recently when he became ill. Larry was an amazing man whose face could bring a smile to anyone. His absence in the lives of his family has left a profound void. He obtained his Master's in Counseling and Undergraduate in English. Larry enjoyed teaching at Ceredo-Kenova High School as an English teacher in the late 1960s. From the late 1970s to early 2000s, Larry could always be found officiating basketball games throughout the Tri-State area. Prior to working at Marshall University, he was a counselor at the Ohio State Penitentiary. After retiring in 1999, Larry dedicated his time to KVC to help mentor underprivileged children throughout Wayne County. He was a United States Navy veteran and a commander of American Legion Post #177, who always proudly flew an American flag in his front yard. He was a patient and loving father who always knew the right words to say. Larry is preceded in death by wife, Glenna Romona Artrip; mother, Mary Tennessee Artrip; brothers, Tom Pennington and Mark Phillips; sister, Jean Vericolli. He is survived by his son, Christopher Thomas Artrip and his wife Leanna Lee Artrip; his stepdaughters, Terrina Blankenship and Crystal Mills. Larry had 10 grandchildren, Carrie Anne Broce and her husband Charles Michael Broce II, Taylor Marie Thompson and husband Jason Andrew Thompson, and Thomas Michael Artrip, Dwight Blankenship, Katie Blankenship, Tristan Blankenship, Shane Blankenship, Ethan Meade, Josh Mills and Emily Mills. He was a great-grandfather of three, Allysen Parker Sparks, Trinity Mauricia Leftwich and Aiden Christopher Broce. Al Spaulding and his wife, Rosemary, are very special friends of the family. There is a host of many other friends and family who will mourn his loss. He will never be forgotten. Larry will always be remembered by his sunny deposition, the humorous asides he came up with in every situation and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. Larry requested to be cremated. The family will gather at Morris Funeral Home in Wayne, West Virginia. They welcome all friends to come celebrate his life from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018.
